beer bread

    my wife got a "hobby kit" from somewhere to make beer bread and of course it includes a can of beer. has anyone made this from scratch?

    3 cups self-rising flour
    1/2 cup sugar
    12 ounces beer
    2 tablespoons melted butter
    Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
    Butter a loaf pan and set aside. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and beer and mix well. The mixture should be sticky. Pour into the loaf pan and bake for 55 minutes. At the last 3 minutes of baking, remove from oven, brush the top of the loaf with butter and return to oven.

    Man, that's so weird. I haven't had the stuff in years. I'm getting ready to go to a potluck dinner and thought, "Hey, I'll make some beer bread! Just like ma used to make!"

    For real, it's been like 20 years. The above recipie is identical to my ma's.

    Weird.
