ASTORIA, Ore. — Oregon authorities say the 4-year-old daughter of a reality TV show star was mauled to death in Astoria by the family's Rottweiler.

The girl, Ashlynn Anderson, is the daughter of Jesse Browning, who stars with his father on The History Channel's show about the logging industry called "Ax Men."

Clatsop County Sheriff Tom Bergin says the girl's mother found Ashlynn badly injured on their lawn in Astoria on Sunday. She was flown to a Portland hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.

The attack happened four months after officers had taken a Rottweiler from the same home after it bit an adult family member. That dog was destroyed.

The two Rottweilers at the Browning home have been quarantined.

    Stupid adults, stupid dogs. Sad.

I want really badly to mock all of the "ban Pitbulls" crowd.

Instead, I will just say that this is a very tragic loss for this family. :(

It is the owners that train those dogs. It is the parents that take care of their children. You shouldn't even leave a kid alone with a golden retriever. A dogs a dog and will do what dogs normally do. Dogs have an instinct to kill a threat, it doesn't matter what breed it is, it has a deep down desire to remove a threat. I know if I ever have a kid and a dog at the same time, you bet your bottom dollar, no matter the breed they won't be in the same room at the same time alone.

Very sad. You just don't leave kids that young alone with big dogs. Hell, even small dogs can do a bit of damage.
I was about 4-5 and took a chin full of stitches from a cocker-poodle.

I'm trying to imagine a golden retriever mauling someone to death...and I'm having a tough time doing it.

    Wait a minute,

I never hear of Black labs mauling people to death.
I never hear of a poodle mauling someone to death.
    Jack Russel terrier? Ditto
    Golden Retriever? Ditto.

It is not how they were raised, it is how they were bred. Certain dog breeds were bred for centuries to be viscous and violent. The most violent killer dogs from each batch of puppies was chosen to breed with the most violent from a different mother. Then their puppies were put through the same thing, and so on, and so on and so on, for hundreds of years. No amount of wholesome family love will defeat instinct and centuries of selective breeding.

With no training whatsoever my sisters beagle will retrieve dead ducks and groundhogs and point out hiding rabbits. How? it was bred into her, just like violence in certain other breeds.

    Especially this family:
Might be a good idea if 'childproofing' included removing vicious dog breeds along with locking up guns, harmful chemicals, killer whales, white tigers etc.

Jeeesus Christ... One post after mine?! Really?

My best friend and his wife are nationally-reputed breeders and boarders. They know more about dogs than Cesar the damned Dog Whisperer. They have told me on countless occasions that Rottweilers are one of the BEST choices for a "family dog."

But one kid gets killed in one tragic accident by what is likely an improperly bred and ill-treated animal, and now, "All Rottweilers are just sooo unpredictable..."

That is complete and utter crap.

Please, provide me with some credentials to back up your universal and omnipotent knowledge of Rottweilers.

The mentality you have just demonstrated is the same mentality that erodes our liberties in many other areas.

"Oooh, guns are scaaary! Sometimes they kill children! We should ban them!"

Guess what? Swimming pools, automobiles, bicycles, food allergies, bees, playgrounds, and organized sports kill THOUSANDS of children each year! We should ban all of them!

We should make peanuts illegal so that a peanut allergy will never kill another child. We should ban Little League so that no child ever dies unexpectedly of an undetected heart defect while running the bases. We should ban vehicles so that no child is ever run over while playing in the street or killed in an automobile accident.

I'm going to take an ibuprofen and go to bed... Wow.

    :faint:

Sad story. Kids have to be supervised at all times. It is hard to truly find "Lassie" in many dogs. I am sure the family is horribly upset and saddened.

I am sorry for the family.

I just feel 2 dogs in one home become more dangerous as its the pack mentality and unfortunately there is no way for a 4 year old child to prove to the dogs she is hire in the pack hierarchy then the dogs think.

Anybody with 2 or more dogs in the home better understand some of the animal psychology so as to protect people around the Pack they created
