"Jonathan L. Arden, president of the National Association of Medical Examiners, said a hyoid can be broken in many circumstances, but is more commonly associated with homicidal strangulation than suicidal hanging."

    Source from the Washington Post

"An autopsy found that financier Jeffrey Epstein sustained multiple breaks in his neck bones, according to two people familiar with the findings, deepening the mystery about the circumstances around his death.
Among the bones broken in Epstein’s neck was the hyoid bone, which in men is near the Adam’s apple. Such breaks can occur in those who hang themselves, particularly if they are older, according to forensics experts and studies on the subject. But they are more common in victims of homicide by strangulation, the experts said.
The details are the first findings to emerge from the autopsy of Epstein, a convicted sex offender and multimillionaire in federal custody on charges of sex trafficking. He died early Saturday morning after guards found him hanging in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan and he could not be revived..."

Can these bones be broken from multiple small caliber bullet wounds from the back?
    Asking for a friend.

This could easily be explained, if he used a garrote to strangle himself........

"The Medical Examiner went on to say that the massive bruising all over Epstein's body could have been caused by the convulsions he suffered as his body ran out of oxygen. The broken left arm and right wrist are common in cases like this..." /sarcasm

Could be but the autopsy would probably state, "injury caused by small caliber projectile" which it does not.... According to a friend at least... The real question is, did they find any purple fibers? Think about it, who's the strongest cat on the block, Barney the Dinosaur, and when was his show most popular, when Clinton was in office. Those 2 parallels can't be ignored...

The headline says bones, the story describes a single bone.

    Were there other bones broken?

I believe there were, but they seem to be focusing on the hyoid bone because it's the most statistically likely to occur from a homicide than a suicide attempt... Anyway, that's how I take it. :)

Everything hinges on what other bones and what kind of fractures. A hyoid bone fracture tells little beyond their statistical observation.

I’d be more interested in C1 and C2.

I’d have to know how they found him to suspect any problem with a hyoid fracture.
