    We've been discussing this at length in the Maryland hometown forum over on AR15.com and have noticed this potential problem for handgun owners as well. If you thought the proposed "Maryland Assault Weapons Ban of 2007" only affected rifles you're mistaken. Here is part of the wording of the bill where it defines which handguns would also be banned as assault weapons:

    "(IV) A SEMIAUTOMATIC PISTOL THAT CAN ACCEPT A
    DETACHABLE MAGAZINE AND ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:

    1. A THREADED BARREL, CAPABLE OF ACCEPTING A
    FLASH SUPPRESSOR, FORWARD HANDGRIP, OR SILENCER;

    2. A SECOND HANDGRIP;

    3. A SHROUD THAT IS ATTACHED TO OR PARTIALLY
    OR COMPLETELY ENCIRCLES THE BARREL, EXCEPT FOR A SLIDE THAT
    ENCLOSES THE BARREL, AND THAT ALLOWS THE BEARER TO FIRE THE WEAPON
    WITHOUT BURNING THE BEARER’S HAND; OR

    4. THE CAPACITY TO ACCEPT A DETACHABLE
    MAGAZINE OUTSIDE OF THE PISTOL GRIP;

    (V) A SEMIAUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH A FIXED MAGAZINE
    THAT CAN ACCEPT MORE THAN 10 ROUNDS; "

    So yes folks, that's right, under the strict interpretation of this law (and you can guess our new Attorney General, who is a board member of CeaseFire and rabidly anti-gun, will interpret it this way) any model of pistol which you can even get a threaded barrel for will be banned, whether you own such a replacement barrel or not.

    Also, anything with an integral picatinny or weaver rail (there go most 3rd generation Glocks as well as a lot of other current popular pistols) will be banned, as they are capable of accepting a forward pistol grip.

    Please guys, write or call your elected reps. in the State Senate now and urge them to oppose this bill. They have 21 Senators signed on as co-sponsors already which is only two shy of a majority. And even if your reps are pro-2nd they still need to hear from you supporting their stand. Here's a list of the sponsors for your convenience, the reference is Senate Bill 43, the Maryland Assault Weapons Ban of 2007 (link to the bill text itself here http://mlis.state.md.us/2007RS/bills/sb/sb0043f.pdf ):

    This is one reason I will never move above the Mason-Dixon. I never have to deal with crap like this. Just out of curiousity, does it provide for the confiscation of guns that meet this description or does it only prohibit further manufacture/importation?

    ^^^^^ Actually I'd change that to say that I'd just STAY in FL. I was talking in another board about how messed-up NC's gun laws can be.

    "Just because a state is IN the south, it does NOT make it a SOUTHERN state!" :shocked:

    Actually, Maryland is BELOW the Mason-Dixon line.
