WHat are Y'alls favorite recipes to do in the dutch oven????
Are you talking about a cast iron true "dutch oven" or are you talking about something more along the lines of a crockpot (some people refer to them as "dutch ovens" around here)?
I mean the genuine Cast Iron cookin over an open flame and coals kind.
Beef and Barley stew!!
A lil' extra broth will make it a soup...
Boneless beef rib chunks (or whatever) browned first, onion chunks, celery chunks, carrot chunks, flavorful broth, Worcestershire, bay leaves, etc...
Cooked on medium low for 2-1/2 hours, then toss in some dry barley and cook for another hour...
(Watch out, the barley grows!!)
The barley sucks up all the killer flavors and has a great chewy risotto-like creamy texture...
The starch from the barley thickens the liquid...
Real down-home comfort food, especially during the colder months...
