Yep, I was attacked by a bear last night. Only this morning did I realize how much it hurt!

I arrived at our mountain cabin just before dark and unloaded everything from the pickup except three boxes of apples which I brought over to give to friends. With overnight temps around 29 degrees, I left the apples in the truck to get nice and cold.

This morning I looked out to see one of the box lids in the driveway and the back window of the camper shell open. Oh, shoot!

Surveying the damage, I found muddy paw prints all around the truck and a few minor scratches in the paint, nothing serious. But inside the bed there was a mess of dismembered apples with apple flesh everywhere!

I expected to find a pile of fresh bear crap, but thankfully avoided that unpleasantness. Bear slobber and a few hairs, oh well. Yogi ate two half bushel boxes, 40 lbs. of apples, the greedy bugger.

Fortunately he left one box, but no doubt the culprit will be back. I'm gonna run the apples to my neighbor pretty quick and warn him to lock up his shed pretty tight--and get himself a bear license just in case. My bear tag isn't good for another 3 weeks, otherwise I'd be sitting in wait on the roof tonight. :teddy:

    Glad you are okay!!

Can't say that for some of your apples, though.

Glad the only thing the bear got was stuff that's easy to fix or replace! Set up a trail cam in case he comes back and post the pics here!

Yea, the BedRug got a little messy but fortunately no bear urine was left behind. The Rug Doctor will fix that up.

I'm going to leave the tailgate open tonight and hope no more damage is done. Didn't bring a trail cam with me.

I suspect Glock 20 might have been talking about a different kind of 'rug?'

40 lbs of apples, shouldn't be hard to track that bear. He will leave a trail a mile long.

Man, that sucks about the apples. Who knows, maybe when your bear yag is valid you'll get that bear rug that somebody mentioned.

Ha, ha, I missed that completely! :embarassed:

I do hope to avoid an encounter with this bear, don't need the legal complication.... my license isn't for this area but in the upcoming hunting season, it'll be payback time.

Are you certain it wasn't a raccoon flash mob?
