That was stupid. Grabbing cops taser is deadly force all day every day.

But if she gets out with her pension intact by resigning she's playing chess and I'm playing checkers.

One on one if a violent offender gets a cops teaser and uses it on him it opens the possibility of him getting the officers gun and killing him with it.

With multiple officers involved that is going to be a tough sell. These days. Especially if he was indeed running away when he was shot.

She can look "progressive" by resigning, then going to look for her new desk name plate.

why do some folks think that you can attempt to disarm an LEO and there will be no consequences?

The version I read said he turned and pointed it at the officer, I think on security video, but if you’re right, and it’s another Slager, he’s toast, and she’s definitely smart for bailing...

What is going to get better by grabbing a cops taser ? Unless you murdered a bunch and are somewhere you think you can get out of the country your just an idiot.. our legal system seems to release a bunch of folks.. I just dont understand the idea.. being the cop was not alone.. I dont know if standard practice is to shoot someone armed with a taser ?? But cops have instinct and if a cop is unable to protect his gun your reflex ( at least mine ) would be to shoot someone before they disable you.

What did the police chief have to do with this ??

Just saw the video the guy was in a full flat out run away from the officer with the cops in pursuit. While at a flat out run he twists his upper body and points the teaser back at the pursuing cop.

It looked to me like he fired the teaser at the pursuing officer but missed. Most likely because the officer was well behind him and out of range.

This is unlikely to end well for the officers involved.

Well, that is probably true if their goal in life is to get shot.

I have been involved in both police and non-law enforcement firearms and tactics training since around 1975. During my training classes I had a block on the use of Deadly Physical Force (that amount of force likely to cause death or serious physical injury).

This is a complex subject, and I was compelled to go into the relevant legal statutes covering the matter. It was confusing, complicated, and impossible to translate into a usable street guide for the use of such force.

I ended each of these lectures with the following advice:

Think of danger as arrows, as from a bow and arrow. If the arrow/danger is coming toward you use whatever force is necessary to stop it.

If the arrow is moving away from you, refrain from using that force.

I've taught the same line for over 40 years. It was valid back then, it's a heck of a lot more valid today.

It has to be proven that the Officer knew ( in that split second) that what the suspect pointed at him was a taser, not a handgun.

If he fired and missed, yeh, probably not time to shoot. I have not seen any video on this. Probably don't want to watch it.

Well look, something positive came out of the shooting. Good riddance to her. Just change the reason for contacts in major cities. There is a high risk of suspect being uncooperative? Just tell caller police will make a report and good luck onscene. I really feel for you guys now.
