Kinda strange this is happening to France and not the US.

France and the US could become closer allies if we'd both stick to core values of freedom and citizenship rights. France tends to lean too socialist, and Europe in general took in a lot of Muslim murderers.
It will be here soon.

Ridicule some ones faith or political belief at your own peril. There will always be someone offended who is an extremist.

**** no. Last time I was in France was in 1985. I found the people rude and obnoxious. Of course 2500 drunken American squids and jarheads ain't the best ambassadors in the world.

I was there around the same time as a civilian. We were treated no differently.

The French helped the Colonials throw off the British. We Americans liberated the French twice from the Germans. I guess the French never learn.

There will be outliers in every group, but there is one in particular that seems to take particularly violent offense to rather minor things at a rate that is several orders of magnitude greater than probably all the others combined.

Ignore that group at your peril.

"Hardline Islamic groups across the region have seized on the the French government’s staunch secularist stance as an affront to Islam, rallying their supporters and stirring up rage."

Who would have ever thought they'd need an "affront to islam" to stir up rage? Aren't they perpetually stirred up?

What ISN'T an "affront to Islam"? Like the states New York has NOT quarantined due to COVID, that would probably be a much shorter list. Heck, you not capitalizing it is probably an affront worthy of jihad.

Sure thing, pal. There just happens to be a really good example of this phenomenon in the form of a cable network comedy show. You may have heard of South Park?

They have belittled and mocked every major faith in the world, as well as Scientology. Jews and Christians and regular targets of their satire, and yet...no death threats from either group. Isaac Hayes quit the show when it dared make fun of his religion, but didn't make threats - nor did I hear anything that made the news from any other Scientologist, and they number a lot of high profile and wealthy types. Not even legal action, much less death threats.

In contrast, Comedy Central refused to air the episode that made fun of Islam, due to being scared of those folks. There's only one religion whose adherents routinely use violence in the name of furthering their religion. It sure ain't Judiaism, Christianity, or Buddhism. But then, you've always taken a perverse pleasure in being contrary, despite facts being laid in front of you. Why would this be any different?

The topic of discussion revolves around current events, not things that occurred 500 years ago. You apologists always bring up the Crusades as a way to justify current evils being perpetrated by the Islamic community.

News flash - Christians aren't the ones currently attacking others for mocking their faith. Try focusing on the here and now, since that's the topic at hand.

I'd also point out that conquering Muslim occupied territory isn't exactly in line with the tenants of Christianity. Those who profess to be Christians and preach violence toward others, with the exception of defense of one's self and the innocent, are not following the example or teachings given by Jesus. The Bible even warns against these types, advising the faithful to be wary of false prophets. That being said, contrary as ever.
