Thought this would be a good discussion post... What do you prefer on your AR rifles? I got a Vertical Fore Grip shortly after getting my first AR. I thought it was the bee's knees, it allowed a great alignment with my rail mounted Surefire offset mount light, storage inside, what's not to like?

Well, I always seemed to shoot okay with it, but one day I took it off for grins, and found it much more comfortable, and easier to shoot well.

I thought, okay, I'll try a hybrid of sorts here... got a Magpul Angled Fore Grip. Hated it. The 'angle' made my wrist feel all out of whack.

Finally, I discovered hand stops. Ordered a pair of Gear Sector hand stops, and installed them this week, as well as a Gear Sector Surefire offset light mount. I run one stop on the bottom rail, and one on the right rail (I'm a lefty), and I'm telling you, this really is the cat's patootey.

That's my story... please discuss which platform you like best and why - AND - if you haven't tried a dedicated hand stop yet as opposed to one of the others, I strongly recommend you do!

I have a VFG on mine. Was more accurate not using it, and it is still on my rifle as a hand stop.

    Short rail with accessories? VFG.

Longer rail (11-13")? Either AFG, if you train that style, tube by itself or a handstop. All in how you shoot.

I have a 7" rail and a FUG, but i've also shot with handstops and longer rails.

Short rail? Short FVG used as a handstop, or a standard handstop.

Long rail/handguard usually means a small handstop or no foregrip.

I had a VFG on my AR but that, the flashlight, and the aluminum quad rails made the rifle a bit front heavy. I took it all off and replaced it with MOE hand guards and a Magpul 2" rail section for the light with no grip at the bottom. I think I'm much happier with this new set up.

I retired my AFG and put on Magpul VFG on my M4. Still hold the gun in a similar manner but after snapping my wrist the AFG felt funky.

I digress...I hate the surefire X300 on my M4. I want to smash it with a hammer, melt down the metal, turn it into a flat disc and skip it across a pond.

I'm not a big fan of either, but a Grip Pod can come in handy.

I don't like the handgun lights on rifles either. The ergos of the switch aren't the best. I run a Surefire E2D LED with a pushbutton tail cap, and really like that setup.

I have a VFG but use it as a handstop. I just don't see the point of buying a handstop and the VFG performs the same function and came with the gun.

I grab the magwell and get small behind the rifle.

I prefer an AFG1. Couldn't stand the VFG.

I find myself doing this more and more.

I have two, but I have not mounted them yet.

Right now, I'm running a Surefire M900A on one and a Tango Down on the other; the rifle w/ the Tango Down has the side slot for a a tape switch; it's connected to a Surefire M962 w/ the XM tailcap.

I shoot all well, and have noticed that w/ a RAS, the added weight is well supported by a foregrip. I'm anxious to mount the AFG1's and see how well I like them.

Here are some pics of my setup with the Gear Sector handstops - again remember this is configured for a left handed shooter.

Those hand stops look interesting, but I often find myself holding differently depending on the type/range of shooting that I'm doing.

Seems to me that they may actually get in the way when changing grips.

But, again, that's just me. Everyone's different. :)

I have an AFG-1 on one rifle and an AFG-2 on another.

I use the LaRue handstops. They are fantastic ans surprisingly affordable.

I went from nothing, to a full sized VFG, to a stubby VFG, to an AFG1, to an AFG2, to my own modified (back halved) AFG, back to using nothing. Come full circle.
