This was posted in the Viagra thread and got me thinking. As a man, are you embarrassed to talk to your doctor about certain things, especially if your doc is a woman ?

The ladies here are probably LOL at the question as they've been poked/groped/prodded by male doctors since, well, since forever.

    Myself, it makes no difference.

One night in the hospital two very attractive 20 something women came into my room and proceeded to give me a VERY thorough full body examination, while taking notes the entire time. The nurse that gave me a sponge bath also happened to be a woman.

When I had a coronary angiogram and catheterization they went in through the wrist but also prepped the groin in case going in through the wrist didn't work. The prep involved another very cute 20 something putting her hand on my package so she could pull the skin taught for shaving. This was done while 5 or 6 other people, men and women, were setting up for the procedure.

And don't even think about getting a colonoscopy if you're timid around women medicos. Once on the table I was told "Roll over on your side and pull your knees up toward your chest". Not a whole lot left to the imagination in that position.

My primary doctor also happens to be a woman and I have no problem talking to her about anything medical. SHE'S THERE TO HELP ME ! She's a professional 40 something woman, and like Kentak said, by now she's seen/heard it all anyway.

Not at all. They are physicians. It’s what they do.

I just hate going because they always find something else broken.

Nope! Got over that about 15 years ago when the nurse told me to strip down to my skivvies and wait for the Dr.. A few minutes later, a rather cute little blonde nurse came in and did a few checks on me then said "drop your shorts". I'll admit, I was a bit stunned that the "nurse" would tell me that. Then after the turn your head and cough routine, I realized that her name tag clearly said "Dr." on it. After that there isn't anything to hide anymore.

I do not acknowledge to any medical personel that I am a firearms owner.

I do not always acknowledge the red wine consumption with my general practitioner.

My dermatologist is a beautiful lady and I get two full body checks per year. I have no secrets from her. She is incredibly knowledible and professional.

If you can't trust your doctor you need to find a new one. They can't help you if you don't tell them things. With that being said, I'm searching for a new doctor. I'm not embarrassed to talk to her. It's that I don't trust her. She insists on writing everything I say down. If I crack a joke, she's writing it down. It makes me guarded with what I tell her. Time for a new one.

I don’t lie and I prefer the touch of a woman.

    What was the question?

I have a huge binder full of medical records including CDs of imaging, xrays, scans, test results etc. After what I went through my Dr. knows me better than I know me.

Spending 8 weeks in the hospital, 6 weeks on a feeding tube, it's like being a diapered baby again. Literally and figuratively. You have to man-up and accept the degrading things being done because you don't have a choice anyway. You lose your modesty real fast.

I may get uncomfortable discussing some things with my Dr., but do it anyway. If I don't, my wife damn sure will! They have each other's cell #s in their phones.

There are some things I choose not to tell my Dr. because I don't want to deal with the ramifications. If I tell him something isn't right he will act whether I want to or not. I've had enough fixing for a while.

Good question OP...For me, the answer is no I’m not... My PCP is a sweet little Japanese lady that may be in her early 50’s but certainly doesn’t look like it...For 14 years she’s always been on the top of her game for diagnosing, testing, and treating whatever was ailing me...Along with that, she has a sense of humor similar to mine..That may be why there’s no embarrassment between us...I always manage to get a laugh out of her nearly every visit... Her father and uncle were barely out of their teens when conscripted into the Japanese navy towards the end of WWII... Both survived as did my father who was in the Pacific during the same time... We discovered that bond about 10 years ago and it’s made us pretty damned solid...

No, but I don't have much interaction with MD's, at least not as a patient.

Nope although I use more appropriate language.

I recently had a major colitis flare up which landed me in the hospital.

At my followup with my PCP she got all the details about my colonoscopy prep work.

I’m not shy at all with my young female Dr. while getting my yearly physical. I’m honest with all of my answers she ask.

There's an old saying that I always told my patients when appropriate (I've added a few words)
"There are 2 people you never lie to (or withhold any info from); your lawyer and your doctor".

I see no reason to withhold anything from a doctor. My PCP is a male and I talk honestly with him. My urologist is an extremely attractive female and I am very straight forward with her. Recently had a prostate biopsy (good news is that my prostate cancer is not spreading) and a procedure where they stuck a scope up my urethra. Basically my urologist has touched my stuff more than any other female in the last year. I figure I'm only hurting myself if I'm not completely honest with the doctors.

In my last job at a national lab, some of the very good engineers were also dinosaurs when it came to female MDs. Didn't want a female examining them, I just laughed.

It's beyond silly, any male or female older than 8 knows the basics of sexual anatomy. Female MDs DO know guys, they're professional and absolutely no reason not to go to one.

At one time we had a female PCP, really liked her. For some reason she gave up medicine. Unfortunate to be sure. Don

I was upfront honest with the last doctor that I had. He was chronically late, and he kept me waiting for 2 hours after my appointment time. When he finally got to me, I read him the riot act over being habitually late.

He said he was sorry. I replied: "No, you're not! If you were sorry, you'd QUIT DOING IT!"

Is that what you meant by being honest?

I had a pulmonary embolism after a knee replacement a year ago this month. At the same time, they had to fight like hell to get me on the right side of the pain wall after a pain blocker that was supposed to last 12 hours only lasted 90 minutes.

It took them a week to get me right, and I learned at that time that they can promise all the dignity in the world, up until things go south.

As someone previously mentioned, they don’t know about the guns, and they don’t know about the extra beer I have every night.

I am not comfortable with either for many things but would prefer a woman, don't need a man touching none of the tackle.
I can tolerate the required one or two people for a procedure I suppose but I would not be keen with 5 or 6 coming in to watch. I was not tickled with the male paramedic trainee watching one of my kids being born but I know it has to happen and he was professional.
