President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Tuesday directing the federal government to prepare a coordinated response plan in the event of an electromagnetic pulse attack (EMP). The order described the enormous damage such an attack could cause and noted the U.S. government currently lacks a coherent plan of action for responding to one.

    Are you kidding?

Humans cannot even manage to get out of a lane closing on the freeway in time despite signs for miles telling them it is actually happening.

This is how I know we are all doomed.

Figure every newer airplane, car, and truck would be dead. Widespread riots when the cities run out of food in three days. Prob every (or almost every) powerplant shut down. No fresh water going to your house. If it was during winter, most of the northern states would be in trouble just from the cold.

Good luck to the government to plan for such a catastrophe.

No, I don’t prep for anything on that scale. That’s so catastrophic, I would probably just take my chances scavenging what i could once our supplies ran out.

Chances of long term survival would be low, but honestly, I’d probably be ok with that. Rebuilding civilization is not on my to do list.

This should have been done at least 10 years ago. We'd be in much better shape now. Hell even two years ago when Trump came in.

When the canned/boxed food, and freezer meat, and alcohol runs out at my place, I'm doomed.

One Second After is a 2009 novel by American writer William R. Forstchen. The novel deals with an unexpected electromagnetic pulse attack on the United States as it affects the people living in and around the small American town of Black Mountain, North Carolina.

In tests, most modern cars shut off during an EMP but were able to be restarted.

    Airplanes are hardened against EMP.

On the other hand most electronic systems will crash including utilities, monetary, transportation, and distribution systems.

The lie that Rosland Capital perpetuates about buying GOLD/SILVER for bad times is that when you need a worldwide currency such as gold or silver with which to barter, it's unlikely you can find anyone who would know the market value of these precious metals.

"Dude, this one-ounce of .999 GOLD is worth over a thou. HONEST."

"Well... I have five gallons of fresh gasoline I'll give you in trade."

I would rather have other options than precious metals. Like great neighbors on whom to support and also lean on. And fishing rods. And propane and gasoline. And lots of fresh water.

    But basically I am doomed.

In war zones or times of economic collapse the best barter items are food, tobacco and booze.

You can only store so much food, cigarettes and booze. Best option is to grow your own food, tobacco and something to make booze out of (corn, potatoes, sugar cane etc).

Gold and silver are as worthless as paper in any total collapse situation. At the end of the day, they are fiat currencies just as much as paper.

Food. Water. Fuel. Ammo. Sex. Those are the major currencies when things fall apart.

I have to admit I have wondered how devastating it would really be, but no matter how bad, it will somehow be made the worst. Cooler heads will not prevail.

I've read that things that have long wires will be affected i.e. Electrical power lines; things that have short wires will not, i.e. your truck, radio. Fiber optic cables are resilient, but the connections will fail. Least robust wiring was for cable TV.

Talking to engineers was told each successive generation of autos, tv's radio's etc. in USA is more resilient to EMP than ones in past.

Sometimes something simple like disconnecting the negative ground on a car battery for a while will let you start up the car.
