Are California Gun Laws Being Enforced?

I live in Texas where it's easy to buy a firearm, but I wonder about the
laws in the stricter states.

Are the strict gun laws in California and other states being enforced?

As anyone been arrested or charged with having an "illegal" hi-cap magazine
or having an evil assault rifle with a flash suppressor a pistol grip?

JB,

I live in Chicago, which also has some asinine gun restrictions. The word I got from a gun shop owner for 42 years is that nobody has ever been prosecuted for the 10 shot magazine restriction here. From what I understand, there is just one person mainly responsible for quashing gun friendly legislation. His name is John Cullerton and is the president of the Illinois Senate. He has the power to tie the bills up in committee or not call them for a vote at all. It's crazy that one person can control that much power. Things are changing though, and I would not be surprised to see more relaxed laws soon. I remember reading the laws for Texas, and thinking that it is not as free as most people think. As a resident, what do you think about the legalities?

Steve.
I always figured Texas was cool, but they're much more uptight than you'd think not living there. Wonder why?
I have a team that is located in So. Cal. My team leader there is a shooter like me, so we chat. I will respond based on he has conversed with me about...but my disclaimer is I don't live there.

1. CA is one step away from being the UK IMHO....their repulsive laws simply blow and make our founding fathers continually roll around in the grave. Even "if" you got a concealed weapon permit for example, the limitations on what you can do and where are insanely prohibitive. Just stupid.
2. Yes, the legal climate has everyone one on pins and needles so things such as Hi Cap mags, having your AR mag fixed in the weapon, chamber loaded indicators, etc are all real and alive. Oh, the new ammo deal is in effect to limiting you to how much you can buy, etc.
3. Do people "risk" it and run to other states to buy their goods and bring them back in at risk? Sure they do....but many do not and they obey the law in fear and frustration.

When you have the CA majority of doped up high minded whack jobs voting in Jerry Brown and Barbra Boxer......I see no hope for the conservative base of rational CA citizens that reside their frustration and depression.

Hey, like the commercial with Rob Lowe, Arnold and all the other overpaid scum say.....Come to California....spend your hard earned money here.....we need it!

Yes. The CA gun laws are enforced.

Yes. People have been charged with violating CA's large capacity magazine law. *
Yes. People have been arrested and charged with violating CA's assault weapon laws.

*In regards to CA's large capacity magazine law...
Usually, people don't get arrested for it and is used as an add on charge in addition to other crimes that the person was arrested for.
IOh, the new ammo deal is in effect to limiting you to how much you can buy, etc.
This is false. The ammo law which may happen only effects handgun ammo and you have to purchase it from a FFL and get finger printed to buy it. There is no limit on the amount. I do not believe it effects reloading supplies either, so if you reload its a non issue.

There are currently law suits to have the law suspended.

ETA yes California gun laws ARE enforced. There have been countless arrests for assault weapon violations in my area alone.

If this is the case with ammo, can't people go out of state to purchase it or order online or what happens when they buy a box from a buddy?
Yes, they are. Being from CA and having traveled to many of the other states, CA has very strict gun laws.

Online orders are a no but you can go into another state and buy it and bring it back. To be honest with this state it probably had more to loosing tax money to internet sales than trying to ban anything. CA has tried to go for taxing ALL internet sales.

As for gun laws about the only time people get charged with them is when they are arrested for other crimes and the gun violations are tacked on after. Occasionally someone gets found with a gun without other charges but it is rare.

Carrying a gun concealed without a permit is only a misdemeanor in this state as long as it is yours. Carry a fixed bladed knife concelaed and it is a felony.
