Just another example of lowering the bar for snowflakes. If I can't look like a model, I'm going to complain and protest that people have to change the definition of "model" to fit me. If I can't make good grades, we need to lower the requirements for college and scholarships, because I was "underprivileged." Fat models are the same as "everybody gets a trophy."

It's not the same as "everybody gets a trophy". It's more like "accepting people for who they are, not what they look like".

I was a good looking guy when I was younger, 6' 5"/235# at 30 years old. At 35 I was broadsided in the driver's door and spent seven weeks immobilized, with limited physicality after. Over the next 13 years my weight went to 265#. Now at age 68, I weigh 285#.

I am a much better person now, than I was in my 30s, most of that is due to the influence of my wonderful wife, who has also put on some weight. I've learned that superficial, judgmental people aren't worth my time or effort.

After all, they wouldn't like me anyway.

    Bull****.

The idea that very un-healthy behavior has to be "accepted".......

And not just accepted, but celebrated as something positive.

It's PC bull****. Don't are how you try to frame it, it's PC bull****.

Let's say a guy is not very smart and does poorly in school - not admitting him to a top-tier college IS accepting him for who he is. He is NOT a scholar. Lowering the bar so he gets into college regardless is "everybody gets a trophy."

Same when a girl is fat and perfectly ordinary, but wants to be a model, so we shame people into creating a new definition of "model" to fit her in, rather than her making the effort.

I disagree, "lowering the bar" is not "everybody gets a trophy", it's devaluing the effort that good students exert to achieve a degree, based on their abilities. College is not for everyone, my best friend in HS and I had comparable grades and SAT scores. We both wanted to be doctors, we both got accepted to UCLA. He went (his parents could afford it, mine couldn't), I went to JC with a plan to transfer. I worked as an orderly at Palmdale General Hospital my freshman year and discovered that I could not deal with patients dying.

I don't remember my SAT scores but I was in the 96th percentile for math and 94th verbal, my IQ was 134. I quit school and got married after my freshman year and went to work as a labor grade 6 Storekeeper at Lockheed/Palmdale in 1971 on the TriStar L1011 Airliner. 18 months later I was an unsupervised labor grade 9 Procured Parts Dispatcher Leadman working with 6 Storekeepers in a warehouse on the third floor of the main assembly building. I was 20, my wife was nineteen. During a layoff I opted to drive a gasoline tank truck for my FIL rather than take a downgrade to labor grade 6 Storekeeper and loose my Leadman status. I figured I could make a decision when they called me back. I drove trucks for 45 years.

From that time until my father retired as CFO of an agricultural division of Tenneco Corp. called Sun Giant Foods, I made more money than he did.

So, the starvation diets, purging, bulimia, and drug use that many models resort to is healthy?

We all have plenty of fat wimmens to look at in our every day lives. I'll be damned if I'm going to purchase a swimsuit issue that has fat chicks and dudes in bikinis on the cover.

If I recall correctly, the move to plus size models began when clothing companies who marketed stylish clothing to larger ladies wanted to have models representative of their clientele. What, do larger ladies need to be limited to burlap sack dresses?

If you don't want to see certain body types in a publication, vote with your wallet and write them a scathing letter with the reasoning for your viewpoint. Be sure to include a full figure picture of yourself so they can understand your disgust.

Whose standards are you talking about?

I'd venture a guess that either one of those ladies would be a much more interesting dinner guest than you.

Your story doesn't apply here. The SI Swimsuit edition is all about how they look. However, judging by some of the reactions on here, fat women have a following.

You say fat like it's a bad thing. Lol! I like 'em with some marbling. Meat on their bones but to be honest, fat is fat. A young woman, any woman under 35, that's already on the heavy side is probably not going to get thinner with age. So I'd say that they might make great dinner dates and good dance partners, as long as it isn't swing dancing, but mayhaps they're not the marrying kind. Diabetes, hypertension and heart disease prefer the morbidly obese.

She has boy hips. She's beautiful, no doubt but curvy? No.
