I know it is a lousy time to buy an AR pistol; but I'm considering something that could be used deer hunting or defense. Leaning towards .300 blackout. Leaning towards either Springfield armory saint victor or daniel defense. Needs to be a pistol and not a sbr. Was looking for 9" barrel and the dd has shorter one; but might be handier. Any thoughts / recommendations on these or different ones?

No experience with either or 300 BO for that matter but if you're choosing between the SA or DD, DD is the way to go. I've also heard really good things about the Sig Rattler. Seems to be a really goo overall option and a great backpack gun. The DD and Rattler are shorter than 9" though.

I have a Super Duty, sold my DD and a few others soon after I got it. DD makes great ARs no doubt, but the Super Duty is a step above.

I didn't see 300 blackout offered as option on Geissele website. Is it?

I don't think the saint series is worth what Springfield wants.

Personally I say DS Arms, Midwest Industries, BCM, or SOLGW

Me personally, I would build it. Better customization and you will get the parts and bling you want for potentially less cost. I have built many and it is not difficult to do..

Robinson Arms XCR-L. More robust than an AR, better ergonomics. Piston driven for reliability.

Build it and get it how you want it, I just built one for less than $500

I don't like AR pistols. I have a 16 inch AR that I built and glock 19.3 & 26.4. Loudness of the shorter AR just does not fit me. I get the automobile need, but nothing my 19.3 won't handle. To each his own, but I feel getting ammo especially in this craziness should be priority above all for most. If I were to get one it would be an extar 9mm since it takes same mags from glock that I currently already own.

As a frame of reference... I have several dozen guns with many that would probably work as well or better for self defense and for hunting than say a daniel defense pdw in .300bo. Used to handgun hunt deer a lot and was looking forward to testing out a new .44 mag and a new 460 mag last season. Used to also handgun hunt raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, etc.; but... Had a fairly major injury to my dominant hand / wrist with reconstructive surgery. It is now somewhat better and i can shoot a .22 handgun or rifle / shotgun fine, but even shooting a 9mm handgun using it hurts. I'm getting better weakhanded, but still not great. I'm not sure i'm really good enough to hit the bad guy in the eye instead of the hostage at 30 yards or the deer in the heart at 80 yet. Don't actually know if i ever will be again. Illinois allows the 300 bo cartridge in a semi as long as set up as single shot. Thinking it might serve dual purposes. Legal handgun i can actually use for deer and a fairly compact weapon i could hit better with at extended distances. The .223 isn't legal for deer in Illinois. Rifles aren't either. Shotgun, handgun, muzzleloader, archery.

The 300 BO would be my choice if I were still in Illinois.

A .300 bo in a single shot almost defeats the intended purpose for that rd.

Don't overlook the 350 Legend for deer in IL.

I picked up the Daniel Defense DDM4 PDW, 300 blackout this summer...love it...

Also ordered a Dead Air NOMAD 30 to suppress this as well.
