Applied for my lifetime permit today

I paid my money and filled out my forms. Now I wait.
I'm sure glad this is the last time I'm ever gonna have to deal with this. The officer that processed me seemed "inconvenienced" by it. Not rude or unprofessional, but leaning towards it. I got the distinct impression that he doesn't approve of citizens carrying guns.

My current license expires the end of July. What happens if/when my license expires and I don't have my new one yet? Am I SOL?

Do the lifetime licenses look any different or still a crappy pink paper card? Would it kill them to do a nice plastic card like a drivers license?

By law, if your license expires before your new one arrives, your old one is automatically extended until your new one is either approved or denied, but only if you applied within 30 days of the expiration. Keep your receipt of application with you as proof.

IC 35-47-2-6
Granting or rejecting initial application; renewals
Sec. 6. (a) Every initial application for any license under this chapter shall be granted or rejected within sixty (60) days after the application is filed.
(b) The period during which an application for the renewal of an existing license may be filed begins one hundred eighty (180) days before the expiration of the existing license. If the application for renewal of an existing license is filed within thirty (30) days of its expiration, the existing license is automatically extended until the application for renewal is passed upon.
As added by P.L.311-1983, SEC.32. Amended by P.L.190-2006, SEC.4.
Be patient, it wil take a while to get your new permit. My last friend to get his waited aproximately 12 weeks. They are swamped with applications. The officer was probably tired of doing gun applications too.
One more thing. When you get it be sure to look at it closely. It must say "Carry" on it and not hunting and target.
Have a friend who got his that way. The state took care of it but if we hadn't noticed, it could have been a real problem.

Thanks. I'm sure I would notice that. I tend to go over and over things that are gun related.
I applied for renewal on my permit on May 1 ( renewed from 4 year to lifetime). Got it in the mail on June 18, the very day the old one expired. Oh, by the way they are still the crappy pink tissue paper. Get it laminated!
Recieved my licence today. Not a bad turn around time at all. Almost a month to the day.

The cheap paper thing still bugs me. Who wouldn't pay an extra $5 to get a drivers license style card? I mean it was already over $100. Oh well, off to get it laminated.

And it amuses me that is says it will be immediately revoked if I do not remain a "proper person". I sure hope the police superintendant doesn't find out that I never say 'God bless you' after a sneeze and that I fart in front of the guys at work.
