    I was given a sun blade 100(ultrasparc IIe).
    I downloaded the sparc freebsd install cds.
    However when I install the installer stops at
    "jumping to kernel entry at 0xC0040000"
    Any help welcomed.

    This seems to be a common though random problem with the 5.4 release.You could try the previous version or try to rearange your monitor/keyboard to console.Or just switch from USB keyboard to serial keyboard and see if it helps.Besides the install CD there is also a boot only CD.Also you can just keep trying as this works for some.The easiest might be to just go with Free BSD 5.3.

    I tried the boot only cd.I got the same error.
    I tried gentoo it was able to boot into the
    installer without any problems as long as
    ide=nodma argument was added.Thanks.

    Free BSD 6.0 is now released.The problem is fixed in it and will be fixed on 5.5 which is also going to be released later as an upgrade of 5.x.

    How does freebsd run on 5.x or 6? I threw a couple ultra somethings in the corner and used intel boxes because 4.x was being a huge pain.

    Partitioning was crude in the older releases 3,4.
    6 seems to being going well for me.
