If so, where do you get your kegs? How much do they cost?

I'm making a man cave and I'm thinking that this would make an awesome addition.

Feel free to share pics and tips on having/buying one!

I had a kegerator - and consequently more friends than I knew I had. Sort of like when you buy a boat.

I bought my kegs from the local liquor store. The gas bottles came from a home brew supply business in San Jose.

    Keep everything very, very clean.

Had a similar version while on a job in Spain.....made it waaaay too easy to drink beer. Without the empty cans piling up, it's easy to lose track of how much you've put away.

On a cost basis, think it will end up being more than buying 30 packs of swill. On a fun factor....priceless.

I was hoping itd be less expensive than buying cans and bottles. The one I'm looking at has its own keg so no deposits.

My buddy snagged a kegerator for $50 at a yardsale. We would buy full kegs for about $80-$120 depending on what beer you get. Half kegs are a bit more reasonable at $45-$60 for some good stuff...plus you feel less like an alcoholic when you get a half keg.

Typically we would get Yuengling or Fat Tire.

I've drank from many a keg, but never a "full" keg.

Kegs are normally sold in "quarter" and "half" denominations.

Yeah, I only want the half keg. Pony keg, I think it's called. Bud light is plenty good enough for me.

ETA: Or the quarter keg. That sounds like plenty for me.

I think of it as "going green." Less aluminum and glass waste. I will celebrate my first Green step with the keg.

My concerns would be what happens when you tap the keg - how long until it is no longer usable; would you finish it fast enough? And would that also lead to greater consumption (mostly not a problem, but of couse it can be.) And are you perfectly happy with only one type of beer. Finally as someone said keep it very clean. I know a couple people who worked at the bars in restaurants who said they never dranl draft beer because of what they had seen.

From what I've read, should last 3-4 months at proper temperature (38 and below.) I can finish it in that amount of time.

    Is that accurate?

I started brewing my own beer, so i built me a keezer. The guys at the liquor store rarely see me anymore.

That "keezer" looks like something I would call EOD in for if me and my K9 found it

Ha! It sure did. If you would like to try and build your own kegerator www.northernbrewer.com has everything you need.
