Bike riding season is pretty much over

Pulled the boat off the lake and spent hours cleaning it up for winter storage so boating season is over

Snow is just around the corner and being in property maintenance means we do a lot of shoveling, scraping and salting at all hours of the day and late evening into the night as the show must go on.

It gets dark earlier & earlier

Dogs can't play outside near as much

Lots of holidays coming up and I really don't like all the gatherings, to crowded, to many people

It's flu season and I can't afford to get sick

I just can't think of a good thing about this time of the year. That's all, now back to your regular GT programming.

Learn to hunt - it's what makes this time of year my absolute favorite.

It's not too cold to ride until ~30°, then my fingers can't handle it.

I've been looking at heated grips and those brush-guard things.

I've never had much use for a boat. No wheels.

The unbearable heat goes away. This is my favorite time. Water still in the 80s for diving. Can shoot a match without completely drenched in sweat. I dont have to pre cool my car before getting in. Drawback is snow birds.

That's way too hot - you can't expect to hunt in such weather...unless it's dove hunting.

The only things I'd hunt for at 97F are shade or air conditioning.

It's bad, that's for sure. But, the opportunity to drop some tasty feathered fighter planes overrides my natural aversion to heat. I've sat out - more than once - in 95+ heat, just to shoot some doves.

I finally get a bit of a break this time of year. Not a fan of the cold that follows.

Ya, it's not usually this hot. We're having a heatwave. I personally can't wait for it to cool off. Fall is one of my favorite times of year. But this year the summer just keeps going and going.

Doves aren't legal to hunt in my area and they're on/under my bird feeders for three seasons. My squirrels are also well fed, and they're tasty! I just wish I could find someone else to skin the damned things, still haven't mastered that.

What kind of Communist area do you live in, where you can't hunt dove? That's pure tyranny right there...although, now that I think about it, I do remember reading something about Michigan actually putting dove hunting on the ballot, and turning what should be a decision made by biologists a political issue. So, I guess it could happen.

I'll agree with you on the tree rats. They're a ***** to skin.

Great time of year here in the PNW. Bike riding/camping/outdoors if it's not pouring. I very much like being outdoors when it's not unpleasantly hot and I don't have to worry so much about sunburn (I burn like there's no tomorrow). Campsites and trails not unpleasantly crowded. Worst case is I get a little wet, but with a bit of judicious weather watching, and a willingness to bail if a big rainstorm comes in, fall camping rocks.

Even here, where evergreens are predominant, the change of tree colors is beautiful.

Great RC vehicle time - quadcopters, airplanes, trucks, etc.

    NFL football, college football.

Halloween is IMHO just about the best of the holidays - it routinely overperforms, is usually at least hilarious and often pretty amazing, where Christmas and New Years often feel overburdened and full of obligations.

At least in this part of the world, it's Apple harvest time, so the cider presses are open, they often have apple fritters coming out of the fryer, fresh-pressed cider, etc., along with pumpkin farm/corn maze/petting zoo, etc. Great time of the year for that kind of thing.

By Thanksgiving, it truly does get dark and rainy, and a lot of the things you describe feel true to me. But Late September through the first week or two of November are one of my favorite times of year.

Yep, ballot issue a number of years ago. I wouldn't hunt them, anyway, not enough meat on one. Grouse are mucho better. We have a lot of woodcock, too, but I don't like the taste of worms and they're small like doves.

Skinning squirrels is easier when they're warm (like immediately after they fall out of the tree), but I've yet to find a quick and easy method. The big fox squirrels are terrific food, once you get them cleaned up, particularly the ones that get fattened on my sunflower seeds.

    I'll quit hijacking now.

I'm gonna keep rolling right along with the hijack...this pic isn't mine, but I duplicate the recipe. Jalapeno tucked behind the breast, wrap in bacon, throw on grill. Cook to medium rare - at the most! [IMG]
