So my wife has a Kindle book file on our computer that she wants to transfer to her Fire. It doesn't come with a cable, and she can't seem to get it to transfer with the cloud. Is it possible to transfer the file from computer to Fire without a cable? Thanks very much for any help!

Can you e-mail it to the Kindle and then just save the file?

My Kindle Keyboard has its own email address (myname@Kindle.com) so I would assume that your Fire would, too. Additionally, the Fire should have access to your regular webmail via internet browser anyway, right?

I'd get a cable for next time.

It's illegal to skydive within 500' from a cloud.

Ebooks must comply to FAR's also.

Drive down the road, a mile or two, and try again.

She tried emailing it to her kindle address and it didn't download. I'm not sure what "FAR's" are and the rest of that is also very confusing (I may have missed something or I'm not tech savvy enough to get the joke). Thanks for the suggestions!

If she has a Kindle already, use the cord from that. The connector on the Kindle-side is the same, and USB is USB (just can't use it for the charging).

We don't have a kindle cable of any kind, or a Micro USB to USB, but I ordered one tonight. In the meantime there is supposed to be a way to transfer data without a cable, we just can't figure it out :(

And you can get a cheap USB to Micro-USB cable at Amazon to transfer data between the Kindle Fire and a PC.

You guys are awesome. I am going to try calibre now, and the cable is on order as of a couple of hours ago. I'll report back once I've tried calibre. Thanks!

Well, just under an hour later I still can't get calibre to install. I keep getting an error message that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." Sometimes it really pays to be a computer geek, I really wish I fit that profile a little better right now.

You did BUY the book originally, right?

Seems weird you can't get it from the cloud on their own device. Maybe you have to delete it on the computer first. (Not something you WANT to do if you can't download it.)

If she bought the book through Amazon go to your Amazon account and click on Manage Kindle.
Find the book she wants on the fire and out to the right it says Actions. click it.
You can then deliver the book to her Fire via the wireless.

Yeah. Does Amazon know she has the Fire??? Double check that online as mentioned above.

I've had to add devices before. It's just been a while.

Found this a little after midnight last night. Another obstacle was that I was looking under books and it was under docs on the fire. Thanks for all the help everyone!
