I'm in need of a black powder rifle, my mom said she will buy me one as a gift. Black powder deer season is in full swing and I have the itch to get out hunting.

I got the cabelas add the other day and they have traditions black powder rifles for around 125$$. I'm not trying to break the bank on this purchase, I just need a decent rifle to fit the job.

    Any reccomendations??

I bought the Pursuit LT about 6 years ago for my first ML. I spent the first summer working up loads for it, finaly I got a 3 shot group with all holes touching. Now 6 years later using the same load I'm getting 3in groups. I shoot it ALOT. If ML season has already started in your area then you might be behind the ball. It takes a few trips to the range to find the right powder/bullet combo. Mine shoots best with 90gr loose 777, and 300gr barns MZ expanders. The more powder I use the bigger the groups get. Good luck.

I've got the pursuit LT accelerator. The breech plug screw out, to make it easy to clean.

    Works fine.

What's not to like? Buy one and start.

Sure they do (Vortek ), though not the Timber Ridge model he's looking at. Not a bad first ML to learn the basics. Stainless just makes clean-up a bit easier.

My first black powder rifle was a Traditions. They've improved alot since then. They make a good gun.

I've had mine since about 2000.
Love it, fairly easy to load, shoot accurately and clean. Once you learn a few tricks.
