just got this in an email is this real?????
I sure hope not!! where is that .500 S&W when you need it?
this is all of the info I received with it.

    • The following pictures are of a guy who works for the forest
    • Service
    • in
    • Alaska. He was out deer hunting. A large world record Grizzly
    • charged
    • him from about 50 yards away. The guy unloaded a 7mm Mag Semi-auto
    • into
    • the bear and it dropped a few feet from him. The thing was still
    • alive
    • so he reloaded and capped it in the head. It was over one thousand
    • six hundred pounds, and 12’ 6” high at the shoulder. It’s a world
    • record. The bear had killed a couple of other people. Of course,
    • the game department did not let him keep it. Think about it. This
    • thing
    • on
    • its hind legs could walk up to the average single story house and
    • could
    • look on the roof at eye level. Oh by the way, the bear’s last meal
    • was
    • human. The third picture is the bow-hunter that met up with the
    • bear before it’s demise.

That is an awsome picture. Lots of praise goes out to that guy. You know that if you see something comeing at you that big, with one intention in mind, is to tear you a new orfice; the pucker factor has to go up about 95%.;G

Actually, a guy shot a bear estimated at 2200 pounds, with a hide squared at over 13'. Larry Kaniut of "Alaskan Bear Tales" has it in one of his books with some pics.

That is a nice bear there, and thanks for posting the pics.

    { six times with a .338-caliber }

6 times, and I love it when we get these threads "what glock to use in bear country".

btw: this bear was very big, but still on avg the American Bison is the biggest creature ( 4 legegd ) not including the Walrus on the North American continent.

One of the gun rags, Shooting Times I believe, sat down with the guy in the picture to straighten out all of the "facts" surrounding this.

I'll dig it up when I get home.

And don't bother with the 3rd pick. The picture of the man that was apparently "ravaged" by this particular bear are an "internet addition" (go to www.snopes.com and do a search for Grizzly). The story that you posted is the latest internet embellishment to two older stories that circulated the internet some 9 months ago. The pictures of the bear are real and certainly the picture of the "eaten" guy is disgusting, but the two sets do not go together. Sure, the guy might have been "eaten" by a bear, just not this one. :)

    Love snopes...

Anchorage Daily News ran an article fairly recently that cleared up some of the facts, and disspelled many of the myths surrounding this bear and these pictures.

You should be able to find some more info at www.adn.com

Why does this story keep growing into a bigger and bigger lie instead of dying? Geesh.... ;Q

And the tree huggers want to hug the bears?? Respect their space and live.
Even with our brains, we are at a disadvantage in the wilderness.
