We're thinking to taking a trip to Argentina in October? Anybody been?

Two weeks, four places. Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls, Mendoza, Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego).

    Any suggestions?

    Will get some looks.

Seriously - the Patagonia/Tierra del Fuego region seems to be beautiful.

Lived there for 6 years. Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Bariloche and Salta would be my picks.

    Iguazu Falls, meh.
Ushuaia, BTDT, but you can say you've been.

    Lots of great dove hunting.

You could burn two weeks in BA easy. It's like all of Europe in one place. Germany, Italy, UK and Spain all there.

You better learn to tip. Waiters there are very good. They bid for jobs at the top restaurants (all tip; no salary).

Be sure to do a thread (with lots of pics!!) on that, I've heard that's a cool trip. A couple of buddies and I are thinking about doing an Argentina dove shoot for our 50th birthdays.

I plan to. Most, if not all, of the people I’m going with have been before and have nothing but great things to say about it. I’ve wanted to go for awhile and am looking forward to Malbec, beef, and a ton of shooting.

Thanks, I'd love to go to Argentina to hunt doves, but all of my friends are little wussys and afraid to go.

I know everybody talks about Cordova, but I think there are places an hour or two outside of BA that hunt.

I've heard tales of people shooting 500-750 birds a day. That's insane.

If any of you guys go please post up, and ping me so I don't miss it.

    I'm out :)

Tipping in restaurants in Argentinian is never mandatory, but certainly desired. If you receive good service and want to leave something, 10% is usually more than enough. However, if your service was awful, don’t feel as though you must leave a gratuity. On the other hand, if your service was fabulous and you want to leave more than 10%, your extra generosity will be appreciated. It is also important to note that you probably won’t see a “tip” section on your bill, so it is a good idea to bring some spare cash. To make sure your waiter or waitress receives your tip you should it directly to them and not leave it on the table.

It’s been about five years. I do recall an outstanding steak dinner. The old waterfront shipping piers in BA have been converted to a dining and entertainment district. It would take a year to bar crawl from one end to the other.
Be prepared for a VERY long flight. It’s about the longest flight you can make without changing time zones.

Before I pulled the plug from my last job, we used to stop in BA on the way to Santiago. A couple of our crews had maintenance issues there that caused them to layover there for a few days. Both crews commented that, while they thought it was pretty and almost European, they had pickpockets like you read about...

While I only got to fly over Mendoza and Aconcagua once in the daytime to start the arrival into Santiago, looked like it'd be a pretty interesting place to visit. (Mendoza, not the rock...). I'm a big fan of Mendoza malbecs, so that'd be an added bennie.

I always wanted to. I never made it to that section of South America. They are supposed to be more European in their approach, and have a lot of beef and leather goods.

I worked in Bs. As. for a couple years in 1999-2001. Was great. Things have gone downhill a bit since the economic crash, but still good.
My last trip down couple years ago for a job near Rosario was a bit different. Litlle bit more dangerous around the tourist zones of Puerot Madera and Ricoleta.
If you have time in Bs. As. take a day trip across the river to Colonia in Uraguay. Only a 30 minute trip on the buque bus. Great town and the only place I've seen where I could live in South America.
Always wanted to go trout / salmon fishing down south near Bariloche, but never had the time.

Go for a befe de lomo and a bottle of Norton wine at Puerto Madera...chow!!

Venezuela is nice this time of year. You could compete with citizens dumpster diving.
