Any traditional archery hunters here?

Once again I am way behind the curve on archery season. It’s already gun season but I still want to hit the woods with my long bow. I have always wanted to take a deer with traditional archery.

I’m shooting a longbow, 40 lbs draw weight. Chronos between 180-190fps. Got it setup with 2 blade broadheads. I can hit with it at 40 yards but for the sake of a clean kill I’m looking for a 22 yard shot. At longer distances I’m likely to flub a shot.

I’ll be happy to take a nice fat doe.

Let’s some kills and setup pics.

I sold my English war bows when we moved. They were getting too hard on my shoulder anyway. They were fun while I lasted, though. 🙃

Now I’m down to my Predator recurve that draws around 80 # at 32” with Easton FMJ 250s and Stinger Buzz Cuts. I might use it next year once residency is established, though I’ll probably pick up something quite a bit lighter. I always wanted a Bickerstaff, so maybe now’s the time.

I am not sure if I've ever seen a long bow in person. I am thinking of medieval archers probably, but aren't they like 6 feet long?

Illinois requires a 35 pound minimum for deer. I have a 45 but haven't hunted with it yet. I'll be 68 on my next birthday and I'm afraid of tearing up a shoulder. Trying to decide now between getting a crossbow, or a 35 pound recurve and limiting my self to up-close shots. Most of my kills have been very close.

I get 180fps with my 40lb longbow.
