Maybe I misunderstood your first statement. Thought you meant the mil. wanted weapons that only mil. mags would fit and that's the reason the 19x mag well and baseplate are made that way - to keep civ. mags out, for some reason. If so, the AR/M4 didn't adhere to that standard. And yes, Magpul is now Marine approved and may even have the contract.

I was using them in the Army in 2008 unauthorized in my M4. Nobody cared but they were unauthorized then. With the 19X the magazine well was designed that way with a specific purpose. Who knows maybe for Airborne OPS or for CBRN reasons. Who knows maybe it makes it easier to decontaminate from chemical weapons. Not to many civilians need that feature for whatever reason it’s there for. Most civilians don’t need maritime spring cups either.

Maybe the cutout is for MOPP gloves? Or have I got the 19x and Gen. 5 mixed up?

Thanks! I'm going to explore a G-26 and a AA .22 kit. At some point I may swap my G-23 for a G-19 but right now the other combo appeals. Still on the fence for my wife - G-26 or G-43 or Shield.

I hear some earlier generations G-19s would throw them on your arm or in your face. Any problem with the new ones in that regard?

There are reasons for those unique features that the designers took into consideration. They are situations which a civilian hopefully never has to worry about. Most civilians don’t know that these considerations are researched for a weapon designed for the Armed Forces. The issues result when they don’t fully convert it into a civilian product. You then have magazine compatibility issues. That projection could be for all of the above reasons. Only the designers know the true reason. We can only assume why it was made that way.

I’ve had no issues with Gen5 and my X Pistols. Thousands of rounds.

The 19X was made in response to the US Military MHS program, not to “fix” the 17/22.

Immediately swapped them out for a set of AmeriGlo GL-947 sights.

I'd prefer them to just use plastic sights as I change them immediately.

I finally got to the range this weekend with the 19X; shot it next to my current IDPA pistol, my Gen4 17 with Ameriglo's. The 19X sights were the only part of the pistol I absolutely hated. Compared to the Ameriglo's, the stock night sights suck, at least for competition.

300 rounds thru mine - seems to kick about 3:30-4:00, pretty well.

I replace stock Extractors with Apex Tactical Failure Resistant Extractors and the 19X is wearing one.

On a side note I noticed the new EJECTOR so I will purchase some to try with Gen 5s with OEM Extractors to see if it ejects better

I could burn the center X out at 7 yards, but that wide front blade isn’t great beyond that.
