Like everything else. It's gone up and wonder if I would do just as well going to mobil one. I'm approaching my second oil change with amsoil. Sure can't tell a performance difference, just wondering if anyone has experience with the protection.

    Thanks bsa

I don't have any proof of protection, but I can say that I trust amsoil over any other oil, period, due to some stories from people I trust involving trucks with hundreds of thousands of miles on them. I doubt you would lose much, if any, protection by going with Mobil 1

Yes, it's good oil. I use Schaffer's in my truck, but Amsoil is good stuff too.

Good oil isn't all about a "performance difference", it's about protection, which you mentioned. I have seen tests firsthand. Amsoil, Schaffer's, and Royal Purple are some good performers.

Good oil, but too expensive for me. I've been a Mobil 1 user for over 20 years and am very happy with its performance. That said, I do use one of their bypass oil filters regularly, very happy with it also. To be honest, for street vehicles I think any name brand synthetic will work just fine.

The same people that have probably never seen the inside of an engine, let alone oil actually put to tests.

I'd like to say that I am a Volvo tech and have experience with seeing the inside of motors! Never seen any failures using a good synthetic

When my 2005 Ford Ranger 4x4 was new I had just started using Amsoil products, as an experiment after 1500 break in miles, I first changed the oil and the truck ran noticeably smoother, I then changed the trans fluid and the manual trans shifted smoother. Eventually I also changed the transfer case and differentials, the truck ran even smoother.

I probably would have had the same results with any other synthetic products, I just happen to use Amsoil.

Mobil 1 is more than adequate. You are talking about overkill to the nth degree with both oils.

Don't know about truck engines, but my motorcycle likes Mobil 1.

I've running Mobil 1 in everything for years but the price has gotten ridiculous. I've recently switched to Valvoline SynPower.

Mobil 1 for fifteen years in about eight cars and two motorcycles. 10,000 mile intervals in the cars, annually in the bikes. Never even a hint of oil-related issues, and the bikes both shifted like a dream.

It's not too bad from Wal-Mart in the 5-quart jugs, about $24.

My 02 Ford Power Stroke 4X4 7.3 diesel is slowly getting everything switched over to Amsoil. I did the transfer case last week and the rear differential is next and the front diff after that and the transmission is last. I just need to install a remote oil filter for the trani first and then switch over to Amsoil. That oil change will cost me about 140 bucks (16 qts).

Just a heads up. Mobil 1 is NOT the same oil it used to be. They have gotten rid of a lot of the good additives that they used to put in it to make the E.P.A happy, and keep their factory contracts. Such as Mercedes and GM. Amsoil signature series is technically an "off road" oil and can keep all of the good stuff in there. However they recently came out with an OE series for a few bucks less to meet some of the OEM requirements.

And at our shop, we see the inside of motors pretty regularly, and help them to make quite a bit of horsepower. That's why we run Amsoil.

Just like people asking advice on flashlights here, there is a much better forum for questions about oil, too:

    http://bobistheoilguy.com

From the relatively brief time I've spent there, I remember that Mobil 1 is very well respected there. Lots of people use it.

I just don't put enough miles on my vehicles every year to justify the cost of synthetic oil.

I put just about any oil in my volvo, since I change it every 3k, but my bike is always going to get amsoil, because I trust it to stand up to the abuse a high-revving motor can deal out.

I run Amsoil in everything I own.

    2006 Freightliner M2 with a Cat C7
    2008 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5.7l hemi
2011 Dodge Nitro with V6 (I forget what size, its my wifes car)
    2010 Polaris RZR
    2009 Honda Rincon
    2010 Honda Rincon

I am also a HUGE fan of their fuel treatments. I did a two month comparison of fuel use on my Freightliner. I tracked my fuel use for one month prior to using the Amsoil Diesel Concetrate and one month after I started using the diesel concetrate. I saw a 7.5% improvement in fuel economy. At $4 a gallon, it only takes about a 1.5% improvement to pay for the treatment, after that it is an actual savings. I average about $1400 a month in diesel in my tool truck so the actual savings is around $80 a month for me.

The Amsoil Quickshot fuel treatment for small engines/ATVs etc help combat the ethanol in fuel. I have seen a noticable difference in the way my ATVs run using this product.

I signed up to be an Amsoil dealer initially just to get the best price on the oil for my own personal fleet. I am now selling it on my route and I have had nothing but positive feedback from everyone I have sold it to. Most of my Amsoil customers are now repeat customers.

If anyone is looking to purchase Amsoil, the way to get the best price is to sign up as a preferred customer. Once you are a preferred customer, you can by the oil at the same price as a dealer.

I would post a link so you could sign up as a preferred customer but I am not sure if that would violate the TOS about advertising. If anyone is interested, send me a PM and I will send you a link.

I run Mobile 1 in my wife's Honda but the dealer uses Quaker State (dunno why).

My truck gets whatever is on sale at Auto Zone as long as it's a reputable brand (Valvoline, Pennzoil, Castrol, Havoline, whatever). It gets changed every 3K miles though.

I run Amsoil, great stuff! I've used it exclusively in my truck and never an issue, and I change oil once a year.
