I had a go at it back in the early 70's just wondered if there's any of us old bangers still left around. My time ended just as the mono-shock and the Honda Elsinore were starting to come into their own.

    That's me in the yellow...when I had hair.;Q

One of my first bikes was a Hodaka 100 "Ace". My second one was a MT 250 Elsinore enduro. Never motocrossed but road many of them.;c

i loved motocross, but i wasn't competitve. i weighed just under 200 pounds and was too heavy. we had some cross country stuff that was way too fun. i miss those days. if memory serves, i rode a 250 suzuki savage.
i did pretty good flat tracking, though. i rode a 360 bultaco flat tracking.

My brother and I were both motocrossers back in the early days of the seventies. I had a Kaw 175 and he had a Yamaha 125/175, had a 175cc jug on it. We were terrors in local heats and some state contests. It was nothing like today with big purses and publicity. If something broke you fixed it, team racing was in it's infancy.
I gave up "racing" in '75 when I went off a track and hit a tree at 60 mph. That accident split my helmet in two. The next day I gave it up...lol! The poor bike was a pretzel. I gained a lot of "airtime" that day.
I marvel at the bikes today with suspensions that actually worked. We had some powerful 2 cycles back in the day, but handling was horrible.
I get shivers when I go to the RCA Dome in Indy and watch the youngsters ride. They do things we would not even dream of on our bikes. I do miss the excitment, but my back thanks me for not going back to it.

I used to have a Yamaha SC500. Only had 4 gears and one speed. WFO. That was 25 or so years ago. It'd kill me to have one of those again. Suzuki also made a nice 500 2-stroke.;c
