Ive played with friends before and the technology is just awesome. The full immersion into the game is the future of gaming.

Im a years long committed mac guy since pcs confuse me so im not up to date on systems and how to get a pc running right. Was wondering if anyone here has experience with setting up for gaming and how to get a good rig without breaking the bank?

I recently tried it at my friends house. He had what he said was a top of the line headset and I think it was around two grand.

I thought it was cool but I started to feel claustrophobic after about ten minutes, even in a big room he had that made sure you wouldn’t accidentally bump into anything in the terrestrial world.

many old systems use external sensors, the new headsets have inbuilt sensors. Older styles are going down in cost a lot.

Setting up graphics cards processors and what not are weird to me, a console gamer.

My Nephew picked up an Oculus and it was a blast to try out! I'm not much for gaming, but I could see myself buying one of those!

I went down a research rabbit hole looking into it and trying to see what i could run. I've switched to laptops over the years and have an external dock with a 1050 video card but found it was going to really not have the horsepower to really drive a good experience. It looks like you will want at least a 1080ti as a video card. That would get you by with any of the headsets and see how you like it/how much you actually use. You could probably buy a used gaming rig that would be decent setup for less than building one new.

As was mentioned you want to read in on the in headset spacial tracking vs the sensors that you setup in the room. Some of the used sets will only have a single sensor that will often lose tracking, you want one with multiple or inbuilt so it doesn't lose you.

Other than that, look at the resolution you get out of the headsets, newer higher res will look a ton better. Also think about the games and ecosystem and that what you want to do runs well on the headset.

I saw some of the deals on the earlier gen but it seemed limiting enough that I'd want the newer cooler versions which comes with the $ hit. If you do get something let us know what and how it goes!

I have to admit some of this virtual stuff is pretty amazing. I can see this replacing sports for future generations. Maybe even recreational shooting.

I have played with it at a friends house quite a bit. It's awesome! Very cool feeling, it's like being transported away somewhere. I was surprised at how good it was. The shooting game "Super HOT" simple and crazy fun!

Never tried it and haven't done any gaming since when Redneck Rampage came out. But sure would like to try it just to see what it's like.

I don't have a VR headset but I'm interested in this for simracing. Question for those who have a legit PC headset (Vive, Oculus, Index, Odyssey, Reverb) ... there's a lot of discussion and spec comparison on field of view with these things, which leaves me wondering exactly what is it you see when wearing. Is it your total field of vision is filled with this imaginary 3D world, or is it more like looking through binoculars, i.e. an oval shaped view surrounded by blackness?

    Hope this question makes sense.

its already here but couldnt violate the golden rule of porn. One man in a room watching porn is just a guy watching porn. 3 or more its a group activity like "guys check this out. Two guys in a room watching porn? Thats just awkward. But i have heard its pretty crazy.

I have been playing flight sims with the Oculus Rift since late 2018, but I upgraded to the HP Reverb which is much, much higher resolution so now everything is crystal clear like looking at a high res computer monitor. The immersion is so good that I can never go back to playing flight sims on regular flat monitors.
