I need some advice. I have a opportunity to volunter for a lateral transfer to the NJ DOC. I would like to hear from NJ DOC officers on what they think of the department and of these prisons:

    New Jersey State Prison
    Garden State Correctional Facility
    Albert C Wagner Correntional Facility

    Thanks.

Just don't get caught up in the funny papers. Yeah, that's right. The BOP get's the ex LE occasionally. Unfortunately under dubious circumstances at times, (re: 2 former border patrol).

And, get liability insurance once you are employed.

What are you lateraling from? Are you already in Police and Fire?

A close friend/co-worker worked at NJSP (Trenton State), and another friend/co-worker worked at Bordentown (Wagner).

You can PM me for PERSEC if you want...

There are 46 positions available to us, but there might not be 46 volunteers.

I'm wondering which prison would be the best to go to and how the supervision is at each prison.

According to my friends, it's like it is anywhere in LE: Some great, some so-so, some terrible. My one buddy (who worked at Trenton Sta--er, "New Jersey State Prison") told the story of a sgt who signed his name with an "X" because he was illiterate. This was in 2000.

I'm told they called Wagner "Gladiator School" because they were young adults who still were immature and didn't 'get it' yet. Trenton were mostly hardcore criminals.

Where's "Garden State"? Where will you commute from? I went to the academy (in 1994) with a few guys who had worked at Rahway (whatever it's called now)...they had some good storied after only working there a few years...they were Desert Storm vets.

As far as I know, there are supervisors who are lenient and those who are strict in all facilities. Best meaning what? Don't have to bust your *** best? :whistling:

Garden State is in Yardville, pretty close to Wagner. I commute from Columbus.

There are supervisors who are lazy, ones who are friends with the inmates and then there are ones who are always trying to write up officers. I haven't been working long and I've already had my fill of these types of supervisors.

Well, I put my paperwork in. My choices are: 1. GSCF 2. NJSP 3. ACWCF
