I'm curious if any federal jobs don't have a mobility clause put into them that says if the gov. says to pick up and move to another state, you go?

    Thanks!

The post office has that clause. Move it or lose it.

Lots of them don't. Also some have clauses that expire after three years; I was hired under one of these.

My position was a GS-0861-7/9/11/12 position, which is an aerospace engineer intern upward mobility position in the Department of Defense. I was on conditional employment during the three-year training period. After I got my GS-12, I was given a permanent position in my current office. They could have asked me to move before that at any time to satisfy the mobility agreement and the agency's workforce shaping needs. But they found a space for me after my "graduation" from the intern program.

It just depends on the position you want. Some people have permanent agreements, some are deployable, etc. We have an emergency essential guy who is guaranteed to be deployed somewhere every 18 months or so. Some people like that.

    Holy crap!! :wow:

Some of those positions make double or tripple what they would make around here!!

Then there are others, like the doctors and engineers that make a fraction of what they make locally. I suppose that's gov. logistics though.

    Thanks!

My dad was in electronics and he did not have a mobility clause. They asked him to move several times but he did not want to move and his contract was tied to one particular building. Other positions would have been similar but he loved what he did and where ewe lived.

I appreciate the info. Is it sort of like the good ol' boy network, where if you get along great and make friends they look out for you or do they not care how well they like you, they'll ship you off if told to?

    Thanks!
