Anti-Vir has the best detection and doesn't load down the system. It doesn't get automatic updates unless you pay but you can download the update manually. They have updates twice daily except weekends. It doesn't scan any email clients if you use one.

AVG is the easiest to use and gets automatic updates and scans email clients for free.Detection is just okay but gets most things. It can slow a slow system a bit if using the resident protection but it's switchable.Anti-Vir has more efficient resident protection but can't switch off for very slow PC's.

On a fairly fast PC both of these run without being very noticeable.

Avast works okay but it's not the easiest to use and it's a huge program.

Avast! It's free and gives frequent updates.

AVG isn't speedy enough to trust, if paying is an option.

if you have money, want top shelf, DONT BUY Norton, or McAffee..

get Nod32, Kaspersky's, or maybe bitdefender..

i'm working on my 3rd year with KAV, it's a sweetheart.

Nod32 is a bit faster, lighter footprint, but KAV is a pit bull on trojans.

i'd rather have a hair slower and a hair safer, my taste. neither one is going to make you mad, and bit defender i hear good about. havn't tested.

    Symantec Corp. AV sucks!

I had two notifications from last nights scan, showing me two viruses. They both originated in the Java updates folder in the docs and settings folder!

I deleted them and ran another scan and it said my computer was clean. The I found this thread looking for the Trend site and found this Kaspersky deal.

So far so good running the online scan:

So when the scan is done on-line, will it clean as well?
