Went into a local gunshop to get a lead away cloth. Told the young guy what I wanted, he seemed confused and then showed me a silicone treated cloth. I said no, the lead aways remove stains and such from stainless steel revolvers. Duh was his response.

I don't know which is worse, his ignorance or the fact that an otherwise well stocked gunshop didn't have any of these widely used items. Don

But only one of my three local shops carry them. Not as common as you would think.

I used them quite a bit when I reloaded. Especially when using cast or soft lead. It is a good product

Use them on front of cylinder...except nickel finish.

So, young guy was new or been there for years?
Sounds like he tried to help.
But you were so much more...?

And instead of educating the unknowing, you run home to post a thread dedicated to your superior intelligence.
    Congratulations on your self worth.

First I have ever seen them. I guess it shows I don't frequent gun shops too much except to look at guns. :whistling:

Thanks for the cheap shot. I did tell him what they were for and I was not in any way rude or condescending to him. Don

That may be, but the title of this thread sure is.

Back on topic: I use the cloths on the bore and cylinders when I use lead ammo. I also use it on a jag or patch puller to clean the barrel of an air rifle after shooting pellets through it. They work great, but be careful with them since they will destroy bluing.
