i went out last night after work to try to squeeze in one more try on the last day of quail season. i only had about 45 minutes of light left when i got out there, but managed to get one more.

i definately didn't go as much as i had planned this year. i ended up with a total of 19. not a stellar showing. last year i had 34 by closing day. but i also hunted more. hopefully next year i'll do better and get out there more.

Heck 17 is better than none. I know what you mean though. It seems every year I have less and less time for hunting.

How do you like your Dove prepared?

    Quail or dove? ;)

It was a little better this year than in previous years here in KS.

Willing to share your stomping grounds? That is far better than I did this year. Really scarce where I was...

Before Quail season, I saw them everywhere just off the side of the road. Groups of 20 or more just running around. During season, I don't think I saw a half dozen total. Yesterday I was standing by the car next to a 6 foot block wall when 2 doves flew in, stopped on the wall right in front of me and I swear, danced and cooed at me, and flew off. Then a nice, plump, Gambel's Quail runs down the top of the brick wall coming right at me. Stops and looks at me, then continues running the top of the wall. Couldn't have been more than 3 feet away. I had to laugh, because I know those birds were taunting me. They know !!
