Independent of the debate about whether pitbulls are inherently more viscous, I don't understand the wide spread appeal of these dogs. It's like the somewhat taboo stigma has added to the appeal for some people. I used to work with a girl who was constantly bringing up how sweet her pitbulls were and how they are unfairly labeled. I never even showed a remote interest in the subject or disagreed. She just brought it up whenever she had the opportunity.

I see tons of pro "pitbull" literature. I see more "pitbull" attacks and deaths than most any other breed.

Despite being a profound animal lover and pet owner and given the propensity for "mistaken identity" (for which there is even more hype) I can't see the need to ever take a chance on such a breed.

Stereotyping whether we like it or not is more often than not based on an element of truth. I'm sorry at this point it's not just the owner's fault. We have to give some credence to the breed's genetics. Not a week goes by were I don't see or hear an attack of this nature mentioned.

I'm not a hater... owner be warned is all I say.

If someone comes near me with a pit bull on a leash, I don't think they should mind if I pull out a pistol and aim at their forehead.

Because of their lack of control of the leash?

    Interesting.

You should go to your local dog park or pet store and try that out. I'm sure you'll make lots of new friends in jail.

Just like any other subject in the media - the ones that have a bad stigma are reported on often and without relent. If a border collie killed (unlikely i know) a baby you likely wouldn't see anything about it.

In my limited little world when a baby dies a violent death, that sad event seems to be newsworthy even in the most jaded news markets, regardless of the cause.

Really? I dare you to find me three fatal dog attack reports that have happened in the US so far this year, that did not involve a Pit Bull. That is how many fatal Pit Bull attack stories have been posted here in the last month or so. Eric

LOL...a child dying from any pet attack will make the news...guaranteed. Pits make the news the most because they kill the most people, an extraordinary amount for their total percentage when compared to all dog breeds.

Pit Bulls kill more children than Brown Bears do.
