Does a .45ACP perform well out of that short barrel ?
Mine shot 230gr Speer Gold Dots like a laser!
Groupings were consistantly 1.5" or less at 10-15m
Take about 35fps/inch off the velocity ratings shot with a 5" barrel. So, you lose about 50-60fps. The guy on the receiving end isn't going to notice. Or, if you're really concerned about it and you can handle the additional recoil, you could go to a +p load. For example, comparing HST 230 gr loads, there is 60fps difference between standard and +p (at the muzzle of a 5" barrel).
I'm concerned about the short barrel canceling out the power of the .45ACP
That would defeat the purpose of shooting the .45 ACP
Don't worry, the length does not detract that much from the velocity of the slow 45 round.
How about all of those black powder loads in 45 colt in the early days. Seems to have done a fair job with lead at low velocities.
What exactly is your concern? I just showed you how you can offset the minor reduction in velocity.
It drag racing there is a saying, "There's no substitute for cubic inches"
I think that applies here and aslo explains a great deal.
I believe it's...
"There's no replacement for displacement"
A 38SPL out of a 2" snubbie will kill a man pretty well. I'm not overly concerned about the short barrel on mine. Buy some 200gr +P Gold Dots or 230gr Short Barrel Gold Dots. It'll be fine
Must be a Florida vs Kansas thing!
It's funny that you say that because I live in Kansas, but I'm from Florida.
I've lived in Florida for 15 of the last 18 years,
origionally from Illinois.
My hometown is Bradenton Florida. I miss it this time of year.
DaYUmn nice racetrack there!
I spent '96 to late '05 in Tampa/Clearwater.
