Last week I got the Sunday paper and noticed an ad for Big 5 had the 10/22 $119 on sale so I went down to the store. The saleman said it was a mistake and should be $199. I had a 10% off coupon and said I'd take the gun for $199 if I could use the coupon. When the salesman returned he said it rang up $119 so He would give it to me at that price and then took anot 10% off OTD for $116.

It is my second 10/22, the first is a SS with synthetic stock and I have had it for 11 yrs being a farm/truck gun. The new gun shot as good as the old one. After a range trip, I decided to clean both. What I found was supprising. The old one had a metal barrel band not plastic. The trigger group was cast metal not plastic. I was alittle disapointed with all the plastic but then got t thinking my Glocks have alot of plastic in them.

Also, I had bought two BX-25 Ruger made 25 rd mags and they worked great no problems at all.

There's no such thing as too many 10/22s!!

Don't worry about the plastic parts. When Ruger switched to the plastic trigger group years ago, there were videos floating around that showed a dump truck running over the old and new (plastic) trigger groups, and wphen the new grou was installed back into the rifle, it worked! The aluminum/metal trigger groups were bent and broken.

Enjoy it. 116 is hard to beat!

The kid behind the counter was the manager and he said he thought the store should honor the ad but when he came back, after it rang up $119, you could almost read his mind, "just screw it". I don't really know what the law would be or the store policy is in reguard to a "bad ad" they had posted their apology on the counter. I assume the cost had to be $150 or so. He said it was their last one but I have wondered if he still works for the store.

I know in the BOOZE biz, at least here in the dirty Jerzee, we cannot by major major law sell below cost. Can sell AT Cost, but not cost - this is a HUGE DEAL . So what I'm saying is this: Lets say you're bottle of booze is regularly $19.99. And it rings up for $15 bucks. But- the computer knows, and tellls you, wait can't sell below cost, in this case the cost is say $16.67. SO- it puts us workers/managers/sommeliers in terrible spots. We have to explain to the customer, look it was a mistake somewhere somehow, and we CANNOT by law honor it- we could and would lose our license (they take that REAL seriously ... going back to prohibition and Mob influence on booze etc.) - so we can make the price $16.67 - OUR COST... but we cannot even go one penny below that, even tho it rang up $15- it's our $500,000-$1,000,000 LIQUOR LICENSE on the line here.

Now as a consumer, of course, you're used to the policy enacted by like ShopRite in the early 90's.... ScanRite... if you get an object to scan incorrectly you get that item free etc. at leas the difference times 4 et.c etc. In booze? No way Jose. Not really sure how it would be on firearms. Not sure if there are Laws to go with store policies, just not sure.

When I was 14 my photographer dad gave me a Nikkormat 35mm SLR. At 41, I bought my first 10/22 carbine at Dick's several months ago and I love it.

Congratulations on an incredible steal, I mean, deal!

Those are the moments when I just look up at the sky, say "thank you," and move on. :)

I happen to have an older S/S 10/22 and a newer "plastic trigger guard" one myself. It was my experience that the newer 10/22 actually had a much better trigger pull out of the box. I don't know if that was the same experience for you...

They seem to shoot pretty close to the same. I did put a 4 X 32 Bushnell scope on the new one and have a 4 X 32 Simmons on the SS. With these oldman eyes I just couldn't hit a 100 yrs. With the scope I was hitting a 3" sticky at 100yds.

Thanks for the feedback, zeme05!

I guess I either got a poorly-triggered S/S 10/22 or a well-triggered plain one, depending on how you look at it...

I hear ya about the old man eyes -- got scopes on both my 10/22's also!
