Hell horse? 2018 Ford Mustang GT gets to 60 in under 4 seconds
More power, more torque, drag strip mode lead Mustang GT changes

Ford reworked the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 for 2018 with new dual-fuel, high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure port injection to make 460 hp, a 25-hp increase (conspicuously 5 more than the Chevy Camaro SS) and 420 lb-ft of torque (a 20 lb-ft increase).

EcoBoost Mustangs will also get drag strip mode in 2018. The retuned turbo four still makes 310 hp but adds 30 lb-ft for a total of 350 lb-ft of torque. It gets to 60 in less than 5 seconds, according to Ford.

2018 Ford Mustang GT: First Drive
Ford's updated Mustang GT is more of a good thing.

"There's nothing beady about what's under the hood. A 0.8-mm larger bore, a result of the switch from cylinder liners to a spray-in coating, raises displacement from 4970 cc to 5030 cc. Don’t worry, you’ll still be rolling in a 5.0. On top of the block are new cylinder heads with port and direct injection.

The new heads raise the compression ratio from 11:1 to 12:1 and two additional knock sensors—three total—more closely manage detonation. Power rises from 420 horsepower to 460, five more than the Camaro’s 6.2-liter V-8. Torque goes from 400 pound-feet to 420, 40 fewer than the Camaro. The redline is up 500 rpm to 7500. At the bottom end, the oil pan is now plastic, which saves 4.9 pounds."

That VDO tachometer reminds me of my tuning days on cheap Polos some 25 years ago. 1.6l I4 implant, diesel trans, turbo the size of the engine, intercooler, Schrick cams, straight piped, and new internals twice a year... :D

Wow... a #3,700 car that gets to 60 in under 4 seconds, for only 35 grand!

And of course it turns like a UPS truck. But hey, it's angry - and you should be too.

My brother had a '69 Mach 1 with a 429 SCJ not stock. Detroit locker rear. Would burn the hides when you stepped on it at freeway speeds.

Or one can pay $35K for a 306-hp front wheel drive rice burner sports coupe.

Very disappointing numbers. The GM (ok, Opel) 2.0 liter EcoTech in the Sky RedLine and Solstice GXP was putting out 270 /270 off the showroom floor TEN YEARS ago. A $17 XEID got it a shaved hair over 300/290...again, out of two liters. HH

Or $10k for something that makes it all look like a joke. And then there's the question of whether or not a person can drive. But we don't talk about shooting on a gun forum...

The new ones are superb in the corners. Not a Miata or S2000 but they do quite well.

Not sure how I’d feel about a plastic oil pan. Seems like a critical component that I’d want to stand up to repeated hot/cold cycles without fear of cracking, especially after it’s got some age on it.

Ford’s probably got that figured out though.
