I was friends of the family. He had a great career and was an excellent ambassador for the sport. He spent the last few years of his life here in Vegas with his eldest daughter.

Boxing fans will remember him as the North American Boxing Federation lightweight champion in 1978 and was named World Athletic Association lightweight champion in 1981 when he knocked out Sean O'Grady. He is also in the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame.

Ring magazine named him one of the top 100 punchers of all time.

    He will be missed.
