It lessened the number of children killed. After being engaged by the SRO, the shooter holed up in one classroom and "only" shot the kids in there. If the SRO hadn't engaged (causing the shooter to drop his bag containing more ammo), the shooter likely would have gone from classroom to classroom shooting up all the kids.
OK My understanding was other officers were in immediate pursuit from the car chase and he would not have been able to go room to room. So whether SRO engaged or not made little difference in outcome. However, I forgot about dropped ammo bag, so if he did not have enough ammo to kill all kids in room, then in that case the engagement saved the not shot kids in that room for sure.

"Local police received a call about "a crashed vehicle and an individual armed with a rifle making his way into the school," DPS Lt. Chris Olivarez tells "Fox & Friends."

OK updated story. Police were on the way but not in pursuit. At that moment, the SRO was on his/her own.

If only the SRO had a way to auto-lock down all classroom doors.

SRO was at Parkland too, it may have hurt rather than helped. If Coral Springs hadn’t arrived and handled their business…

SRO will not be where the shooter starts most of the time.

Randy
SRO confronted him at Point Of Entry and was shot.

There is no evidence of hostages like Orlando.

All evidence is he started shooting when he got in room, and continued shooting till he ran out of ammo or live kids. Shooting of kids was likely over in 60 seconds or less.

Wut

Texas Department Public Safety spokesman Lt. Christopher Olivarez confirmed to a reporter during a live shot that police officers went into Robb Elementary School to get their own children during the massacre.

I think you are jumping to conclusions.
No

My info is up to date as of an hour ago

There was no LE presence on the campus and the door was unlocked and he walked in un contest.

He also engaged some folks at a funeral home after he crashed the car before he entered, but that did not initiate a lockdown.

You said there was no SRO. Let me remind you of your post, from the last page.
Huh?

There was no SRO. This entire thread is based on a false premise.

That was an entire post, by you. Go check it from the last page. We will wait.

thanks for waiting. Could not cut/paste/quote earlier.

I was referring to these comments made by DPS but could not paste them:

Victor Escalon, Texas Department of Public Safety regional director, said Thursday at an impromptu press conference that the shooter was never engaged by a school resource officer, contradicting a report that the department provided a day earlier.

“Escalon added that no police or law-enforcement officers were present at the school at the time, which allowed the shooter to enter the school unobstructed. He said that police officers responded to reports of shots fired at the school at 11:44 a.m. local time, four minutes after Ramos was reported to have entered.

Escalon forcefully pushed back against suggestions that police declined to enter the school after arriving at the premises, as has been suggested by parents of students with videos circulating on social media.
He also dismissed suggestions that an officer with the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police service had confronted the suspect outside the school before he entered.

Instead, he said, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos crashed his grandmother’s truck at 11:28 a.m., climbed the school fence and entered the west side of the school at 11:40 a.m. through the back door without facing police resistance.

This just keeps getting worse.

Victor Escalon, Texas Department of Public Safety regional director for South Texas said Thursday the officers who first arrived on the scene did not make entry initially because of the "gunfire they're receiving," adding that the U.S. Border Patrol tactical teams arrived one hour later.

So today’s SRO update:

The School SRO who was not present when shooter arrived on campus, was in fact one of the first LE to arrive after 911 call.

He entered parking lot, but did not see the shooter hiding between cars.

Then he proceeded to detain a teacher at the school, thinking it was the shooter.

Dumb and dumber.

Many Texas school districts have their own PD separate from the town they may have schools in.

Texas Rangers are the lead investigative agency in this and are under direction of DPS.
