i'm curious about the ammo used by those shooting in gssf matches, especially those that have won or finished high in A class. do most of you load your own ammo to limit recoil? or buy a particular brand/weight? or just buy whatever is cheap?

    thanks

One of our top Masters uses Winchester White Box from WalMart. Many reload. If you have a malfunction with a reload, you do not get a re-shoot.

It's the shooter that makes the difference, not the ammo.

I load my own. If using factory I would go for PMC 115 JHP

JHP are always more accurate than FMJ

I prefer to roll my own. It does seem to help bring things together.

    I make my own.

It has about 1/3 less muzzle rise and is more accurate than the brands I have purchased.

On the plates, I think it makes a significant difference, for me. But, that difference may be only 2-3 seconds after firing 4 strings. On the other two Courses of fire, accuracy is the most important. Muzzle rise or recoil really doesn't have that much to do w/it.

Most of these guys/gals that are "swimming at the deep end of the pool" w/me could probably use most any kind of commercially manufactured ammo and still do very well.

The real edge, that one would get shooting Am Civ...... or Stockmeister, would be to the shooter that trains and I'm convinced most can be done by simply doing "dry fire"; practicing holding the weapon steady, focusing your eye(s) on the front sight, and pressuring the trigger till the striker falls w/out moving the front sight off the target.
....something that I have to work on:)
