For quite some time it's become apparent that 9mm covers a lot of bases for those wanting and needing only one caliber. And with LEO agencies steadily moving towards that caliber it's been a no-brainer for first-time buyers to move in the same direction.

Went to Bass Pro to pick up a rubber Hogue grip for one of my pistols. While I was there, I was able to get 4 boxes of Sig Sauer Elite V-Crown 9mm ammo for $14.99/box. They just happen to be putting out ammo while I was there. Got a 350 round box of Winchester .380 for $99 or .28/round. Looked on ammoseek and the cheapest the 350 round box of Winchester is going for is $638 or $1.82/round!

I actually did not need the ammo, but since I was there and it was on the shelf.......

Here is some 9mm if anyone is looking.

    https://www.targetsportsusa.com/fed...15-grain-full-metal-jacket-wm5199-p-3154.aspx

A few days ago Cabela's had some for less, Herter's 9mm brass case. You got to go weekdays at Cabela's, early AM and they get some ammo in usually daily.

Walmart had some 7.62 NATO FMJ for .78 each. Also soft tip .308 for about .85 each. I was surprised that they carry any FMJ rifle ammo. Thought when they stopped selling pistol ammo and stopped 5.56 they would not sell FMJ rifle ammo any longer. First time I saw some, otherwise only found .308 soft tip at Walmart.

Really the best deal of the bunch is 30-30 ammo. Walmart had some for .68 a round.

I am stocked up completely now on all FMJ for the range for all calibers. I am a little low on self-defense JHP. Went to Bass Pro today and they got in some Sig Sauer Elite V-Crown 365 ammo for $14.99/box of 20. I bought my limit of 5 boxes. I am now completely stocked up on everything across the board!

I used to purchase ammo from CTD but they've been too expensive for the last couple of years, in my recollection. Their prices used to be in line with a half-dozen Internet ammo dealers I generally order from but CTD went off the tracks a long time ago, IMHO.

The caliber I am having the most difficulty finding SD and FMJ ammo for is the 38 Special. I think because it's a very popular caliber like the 9mm everyone has one but not as much ammo is made for it.

Before this shortage I was only concerned with my primary SD calibers ammo inventory and did not give much thought to my secondary calibers like the 38 Special and .380. However faced with the very real possibility of a bleak ammo future I have for the past few months been stocking for the calibers I have neglected.

I have a LGS I think it is a small chain store called Shoot Point Blank. I have been able to buy ammo off the shelf up until today when I went in and found out the ammo had been moved to the back. The clerk told me they were no longer selling ammo to the general public if I wanted to buy ammo from them now I would have to be a "member" of some sort of the store and there were 3 levels of membership. I was told the lowest level of membership would require a membership fee of $20.00 per month! This store is now off my go to list.

Anyone else encounter this type of thing? Sounds like they are practicing liberal ammo control tactics a little early.

I am pretty familiar with Shoot Point Blank. We have one here in Knoxville. I think about 10-15 locations overall. Overall it is a decent gun shop. My wife and I took our CCW class there a couple months ago. Ours is real nice since it is new. Good range, people are pretty knowledgeable overall. Their prices on guns have always been a little higher. Usually about $30 to $75 even before the pandemic. I have several buddies that do the $20/month as it is their go to range.

As far as keeping ammo back for members I guess it does not surprise me. I am sort of mixed about it but if I was a member there I would like it a lot. I think over the next 6 to 10 months you are going to see a lot of this until it calms down a little.

BTW, went to Academy Sports today to pick up some Justin Boots I ordered. Figured what the heck, checked out the gun section. They usually put out all their ammo before they open daily. I guess today they held some out for later.... Was walking by and an associate had a cart stuffed full of handgun ammo. Asked if I needed anything and I said it depends..... Picked up a 500 bulk pack of Winchester for $99. I did not need it, but at .20/round, why not! This was about noon today.

They had 2 models of the Hellcat and p365 in stock. Hellcat and p365 were both still $499. Had a couple Glocks and a nice p320 x-compact.

Solid score. That x-compact is such a good feeling gun. Very underrated as many don't know it exists.

Times like these are what separates the true free market capitalists from the whiny little closeted liberal *****es begging for someone else to bail them out.

I would be more interested if they didn't scan my drivers license every time I buy something there. Just do not like it that someone is tracking and recording every buy that I make. No other store I buy from wants to see an ID but anyway at this point it's no big deal I'm just topping off my stash.

Found a box of this at the LGS while browsing the ammo yesterday. They've had quite a bit of old stuff coming into the store lately, but not so much new... and they're now holding on to 9mm and 45 to sell to purchasers of a gun. [IMG][IMG]

It's definitely crazy right now. I bought a good amount right before this hit in march so it's holding me over. I also have access to a first responder only store near me who is still able to stock ammo at a decent price compared to the rest of this mess. About 0.20 cpr for 9mm and 0.30 for 5.56. There is a purchase limit of 1 case per customer per day but it's better than nothing.

It’s not all doom and gloom out there. I happened to find 1,100 9mm bullets I forgot I had cast. I’ll get them powder coated and loaded in a week or two when I have free time.

Right now I’m loading a bunch of 35 Remington ammo. That stuff is always hard to find if you don’t make it yourself.
