Went on an ammo treasure hunt today just to see what was available. I really do not need anything but it is fun right now with all the craziness...
Went to Smoky Mountain Guns and Ammo and they were out of all handgun calibers. .22lr, .380, 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP they had none.
Bud's Gun Shop had pretty much everything in stock. Charging $25/50 box of 9mm for 115gr. FMJ. Not horrible, but I will pass on that and other people were buying it up left and right. They also had Remington Thunderbolt .22lr for $79.99/box or .16/round...... For sure no thank you!
Bass Pro Shops - Actually found a few things. I got some .22lr CCI Blazer. It was 2.79/50 box or 5.6/round. I bought 10 boxes just because it was pretty decent price. They also had Herter's .22lr for $22.99/500 or 4.6/round. I also got 3 boxes of Federal 9mm for $11.99/box or .24/round. They had a limit of 3 on that, no limit on the other ammo.
All places had a good number of firearms in stock all things considered......

Rural king, bass pro/cabelas, and my local shops have been with us through this and not gouged. I will remember this when all this stuff is over. They will get my business for sure.
Academy has gouged either. They aren't the cheapest on a good day, but haven't raised prices to take advantage of this mess the communists/Democrats and terrorists have ruined our country with.
For the past 3 years ammo prices were about the lowest priced ever. Sad many didn't get when the getting was good. I guess we cant afford two case of 17 cents per round ammo but a case at 34 cents per round of ammo is affordable.

Man I remember the glory days in the late 2000’s when I was getting cases of Blazer Aluminum 9mm for $79 - $89! Those were the cheapest I have seen it.
Academy is another one that is staying the course and has not really went up. I picked up 2 500 count Winchester 9mm White Box packs a couple weeks ago. They had it at $99 or 19.8/round. They usually have range ammo every day with a limit of 3 boxes. You have to get there when they open to get some but usually priced at 11.99 to 13.99 per box depending on brand. They usually have Winchester, Seller & Beloit, Magtech, etc....
Sportsmans Warehouse, BassPro here is cleaned out of ammo, and no SP or SR primers at all. Lots of LP & LR primers though. Powder is decently in supply. Neither place was/is gouging either when they have it in stock. If anything went up at all in price, it was pennies. Now the LGS`s in my area, i`m gonna have a very hard time supporting them any longer after this. Bastards doubled and tripled, and some other stuff even more. They have stuff, but you`ll get raped! F__K`em!
I`ve seen couple places on GB with seller`s trying to sell a brick of primers for $300/1000.

Watched a case of S&B 9mm FMJ at $16.00 per box disappear at a LGS in less than 5 minutes! As I walked into the store a guy was walking out with his 5 box limit and told me it was in stock. I went directly to it one guy was already there getting his 5 boxes I got my 5 just as a woman walked up behind me and got the last 5, all gone a thousand rounds off the shelf in minutes.
Then found a couple boxes each of Remington GS in 38 Special and 9mm at another small LGS. Anyway tomorrow is another day.

Supply/Demand = When you sell something at ridiculous prices
Gouging = When you want buy something that is based on supply/demand
we really need to learn what those words mean people.
Example: a 24 bottle case of water from qwik-mart before a hurricane. They sell water for $1.50 a bottle. So a $36 dollar case is not gouging.
Additionally - if these were "survival" necessities I might consider it gouging. You all have enough ammo to last a few months. Some for a few years....
556 was gone, 223 was scarce but you could still get 9 every now and then around here. Now 9 has almost completely dried up but you can occasionally find a little but of 556 and 223 popping up. It feels like some manufacturers shifted priority to meet rifle demand since everyone was snapping up ARs probably more than anything else out of fear they’ll be outlawed first, and just created a bigger shortage elsewhere.

See post #10 if you are wondering where all the ammo went. Gun owners are starting to understand this might be the last chance for ammo, at least at a reasonable price.
If Biden gets elected on line ammo and gun sales will end shortly thereafter and that will only be the starting point.
For quite some time it's become apparent that 9mm covers a lot of bases for those wanting and needing only one caliber. And with LEO agencies steadily moving towards that caliber it's been a no-brainer for first-time buyers to move in the same direction.

Man I remember the glory days in the late 2000’s when I was getting cases of Blazer Aluminum 9mm for $79 - $89! Those were the cheapest I have seen it.
Wife and I started our vacation a week ago and stopped t a RK in Fort Wayne Indiana to pee and get some snacks for the road.
They had four boxes of Blazer Brass 180 gr .40 FMJ At $14.99 A box, so I grabbed them and some .22lr. I put the ammo in my trunk and we went all over the Northeast with it, me worried about getting pulled over in an unfriendly state and having to explain it. That didn’t happen and last Saturday the last day of my vacation fifty rounds of that rare Blazer .40 went down range at my sons place in Washington Indiana out of a Gen 3 G-23.
Sure felt good!

Went to Bass Pro to pick up a rubber Hogue grip for one of my pistols. While I was there, I was able to get 4 boxes of Sig Sauer Elite V-Crown 9mm ammo for $14.99/box. They just happen to be putting out ammo while I was there. Got a 350 round box of Winchester .380 for $99 or .28/round. Looked on ammoseek and the cheapest the 350 round box of Winchester is going for is $638 or $1.82/round!
I actually did not need the ammo, but since I was there and it was on the shelf.......
A few days ago Cabela's had some for less, Herter's 9mm brass case. You got to go weekdays at Cabela's, early AM and they get some ammo in usually daily.
Walmart had some 7.62 NATO FMJ for .78 each. Also soft tip .308 for about .85 each. I was surprised that they carry any FMJ rifle ammo. Thought when they stopped selling pistol ammo and stopped 5.56 they would not sell FMJ rifle ammo any longer. First time I saw some, otherwise only found .308 soft tip at Walmart.
Really the best deal of the bunch is 30-30 ammo. Walmart had some for .68 a round.
I used to purchase ammo from CTD but they've been too expensive for the last couple of years, in my recollection. Their prices used to be in line with a half-dozen Internet ammo dealers I generally order from but CTD went off the tracks a long time ago, IMHO.
I am stocked up completely now on all FMJ for the range for all calibers. I am a little low on self-defense JHP. Went to Bass Pro today and they got in some Sig Sauer Elite V-Crown 365 ammo for $14.99/box of 20. I bought my limit of 5 boxes. I am now completely stocked up on everything across the board!
The caliber I am having the most difficulty finding SD and FMJ ammo for is the 38 Special. I think because it's a very popular caliber like the 9mm everyone has one but not as much ammo is made for it.
Before this shortage I was only concerned with my primary SD calibers ammo inventory and did not give much thought to my secondary calibers like the 38 Special and .380. However faced with the very real possibility of a bleak ammo future I have for the past few months been stocking for the calibers I have neglected.
I have a LGS I think it is a small chain store called Shoot Point Blank. I have been able to buy ammo off the shelf up until today when I went in and found out the ammo had been moved to the back. The clerk told me they were no longer selling ammo to the general public if I wanted to buy ammo from them now I would have to be a "member" of some sort of the store and there were 3 levels of membership. I was told the lowest level of membership would require a membership fee of $20.00 per month! This store is now off my go to list.
Anyone else encounter this type of thing? Sounds like they are practicing liberal ammo control tactics a little early.
I am pretty familiar with Shoot Point Blank. We have one here in Knoxville. I think about 10-15 locations overall. Overall it is a decent gun shop. My wife and I took our CCW class there a couple months ago. Ours is real nice since it is new. Good range, people are pretty knowledgeable overall. Their prices on guns have always been a little higher. Usually about $30 to $75 even before the pandemic. I have several buddies that do the $20/month as it is their go to range.
As far as keeping ammo back for members I guess it does not surprise me. I am sort of mixed about it but if I was a member there I would like it a lot. I think over the next 6 to 10 months you are going to see a lot of this until it calms down a little.
BTW, went to Academy Sports today to pick up some Justin Boots I ordered. Figured what the heck, checked out the gun section. They usually put out all their ammo before they open daily. I guess today they held some out for later.... Was walking by and an associate had a cart stuffed full of handgun ammo. Asked if I needed anything and I said it depends..... Picked up a 500 bulk pack of Winchester for $99. I did not need it, but at .20/round, why not! This was about noon today.
They had 2 models of the Hellcat and p365 in stock. Hellcat and p365 were both still $499. Had a couple Glocks and a nice p320 x-compact.
Found a box of this at the LGS while browsing the ammo yesterday. They've had quite a bit of old stuff coming into the store lately, but not so much new... and they're now holding on to 9mm and 45 to sell to purchasers of a gun.
I have done both 357 barrel for .40 and the opposite. I have been saying for 2 years to buy up a couple police trade glock 22's or 23's for around 300 dollars. Ammo is still more available and with the 357 sig barrel that is an awesome defensive gun.
