20 years ago my dad was exploring the possibility of retiring in Mexico. He went down exploring. He hired a driver for his time down there and the driver was telling him that if you do move down here, anytime you go out you need to hire a house sitter. You will be ripped off when you are gone, then somebody will steal it from them, and somebody will steal it from them. That's the way our culture is. He did not retire down there.

Used to go to Mexico City and Monterrey back in the 1990’s.

You didn't have to be far off the path to see some real bad stuff.
We always had armed security and I still never felt safe.

I don’t have to go anymore (thankfully).

The locals thought ripping off Gringo’s was a National Sport. They took great pride in their corruption. The whole f’n country is built on corruption.

I heard Trump could clean mexico up but he wants some quid pro quo for dirt on eric holder.

If they put tags on the cartel member and let you keep what you take I am sure there would be some Marines volunteer for the job, just give them two weeks leave.

FWIW. The LeBarron clan is a polygamist group. They had ties to the LDS church some generations ago. They are not members of the LDS church. They have had massive legal troubles in the US so they and some other polygamist groups headed to Mexico years ago.

In a strange way, Mexico offers a possible scenario at what the USA could look like under permanent Democratic rule.
Think of the demise in Cali and Chicago
ETA..... and strangely the very wealthy can live very well, effectively untouched.

Like so many places, Mexico is a geographical name on a map. There are no-go areas all over the world.

Years ago, I visited a section of Bridgeport, CT. He was a native. Streets where we went were deserted. We were going to a little grocery store. Beautiful girl behind the counter. I asked him how she could be safe as the neighborhood was quite bad. He walked me outside and pointed out the two blocks controlled by the mob and the block controlled by a local black thug. He said that everyone knew not to go outside their territory and cause trouble.

Yeah, it is supposed to be better elsewhere, right? Not true. Sicily. Wife's 20 something female cousin was required to have her 11 year old brother escort her in the family car for a dental appointment in the next town. She was not allowed to go downstairs (apartment housing above stores) to the town square in the evening without a male escort.

So, eventually, there will be a reaction from the Mormon community. Who will win? I have no idea.

The president of Mexico would have to admit he has no control of his country if he accepted President Trump's offer. I don't see him doing that. He'd last about a day before the cartel's took him out.

Yep CT solidly Democrat for the last 7 election cycles ( since 1992).

Beyond that you can’t rip out all of the traditional jobs and leave unemployment and desperation. It’s a certain recipe for crime.

Bridgeport seems like a barrio to me. Lots of illegals in the present day.

Think of how Rudy helped to clean up NYC. It’s been backsliding recently.
