I saw the promos for this and thought it would be interesting.

    I was wrong.

Signal-to-Noise-Ratio was off the low end of the scale. There was maybe five minutes of real information (what they found, how it was used...) and the rest was nonsense fluff like the bickering about getting permission to dig and sales prices.

Is there anything left on TV that requires more than a pulse to watch?

Fake show. Obviously. Sensationalized for TV. They find "amazing" stuff every episode and always manage to find at least one gun. Sometimes they use tractors (brought in on trucks) and use all kinds of equipment. The stuff they find wouldn't hardly pay their working wages let alone their expenses.

Yeah right. They dig in a middle of a field and find a leather pouch full of old coins. I wish I had my 30 minutes back.

I never saw any utility location markers either. Excavator vs gas line. Now that's good tv.

The only reality show worth a damn anymore is still Deadliest Catch.

Rule of thumb: if a reality show's title starts with "American"... avoid at all cost.

I do still watch American Chopper though, but it may not make the cut past this season.

I have spent many hours in Northern Mi metal detecting 1800s logging camps and towns. I thought great a show about one of my favorite pasttimes. After 10 minutes watching I could take no more.

I have been metal detecting since 1997. Spent many hours in woods and fields. I've had the the occasion to fall in to a few civil war places that was untouched.

Anyone that has done this hobby knows that show is B.S. That guy and his crowd are a bunch of clowns. Not even close to any reality.

The joke I saw was them finding a megladon tooth. Rent this huge equipment to dig. Of course he pulls out a huge mint tooth out of the mud. Takes it and a few other things and get +$3000 from some old guy sitting in a shop.

Back in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. A man might scrape out a living plundering fields, woods in Virginia. But those days are over.

30 min breakdown (completely made up from my perspective)

    11 min commercials
4 min intro and teasers for what comes up after commercials
6 min job description and dig negotiation
3 min fake negotiation and "sale" of treasure
    1 min final wrap up
5 min actual digging and description of unbelievable items found

I too want my 30 min back.

This show could be saved, there is a better metal detecting show I caught a few weeks back that was low budget and more informative. If anything they should find a dig location of historical significance and interest, make it a series of episodes digging that spot and have actual experts describe and evaluate what they find. A former pro wrestler yelling "boom!!" does not meet my expectation as an expert in any field.

Metal detecting could make for an interesting topic for a show, but if it looks so easy a caveman could do it there is no interest developed.

    I only watched one episode.
They found the head of an old mattock, and acted like it was the Ark of the Covenant they had stumbled across.

I have three or four rusty old mattocks leaning up in a shed. I think a couple belonged to my grandfather, a couple more were $3.00 auction purchases.
