I don't like this survey. Why should I tell the census Bureau what my income is... other than threat of a fine?

So they want this information annually? wtf!

Should I include the results and any video from my colonoscopy too?

They sent a second survey because I didn't get the first one back within three weeks of their mailing it out. That's what the letter said that came with the survey.

As though I have nothing else going on and just wait for the federal government to summon me so I can provide them with personal information.

    Just ignore it too.

They won't send federal marshals until you ignore it the 3rd time.

:dunno: they actually threatened me with a fine/imprisonment if I didn't complete the census bureau's questionnaire. Don't know if it's the same forms they sent the OP or not, but after ignoring several mailed surveys, they sent a lady to my home and she got pretty crappy with me. After she invited herself into my home while I was unloading groceries, I forcefully escorted her out of my house and answered her questions in my driveway. Seeing as that I'm an LEO, I had to think about how I responded to her out of concern for job security. But I made it more than clear that as a father, I consider entering my home uninvited as a threat to my children.

It's all B.S. as far as I'm concerned. F'em all.

I would truly LOVE to get fined or imprisoned for not returning their survey.

That's pretty much the attitude I had. Needless to say, it would have sucked all around for all parties involved had things gone south.

Thank you ma'am. It really sucks sometimes having to maintain professional composure against an obvious intrusion upon one's private life. As a public servant to my county and community I show everybody, even people that I know are guilty, the utmost professional courtesy (whether I agree with it's necessity or not). It's sad that other's who are representatives of the fedrule gubmit can't do the same for the "average Joe". Luckily I am able to maintain composure and convey a message without making an *** of myself. Think Liam Neeson's phone conversation with the kidnappers in the movie "Taken" :D

I don't follow this issue that closely, but there are pending bills in the US Congress. One is to remove criminal penalties and make the survey voluntary. I believe it just languished in the house and might very well languish in the senate. The senate bill is 3079. The companion house bill is 931 (2011). There are also appropriations bills that affect its funding, and thus, the number of questions. The house just cut the survey's budget, but I don't know about senate action.

There are many groups that have a stake in the survey because it can determine how government money is distributed. The special interests are widely varied including welfare, business-government parterships, law enforcement, government contractors, etc. It's a big plus for manufacturers and retailers because they use it for their market research. The Survey's requirement by law is the classic example of curbing privacy and freedom in favor of big government.

One suggestion is to speak up and contact your house and senate members. There are also organized groups who are working against the survey.

Report her to the census entering a house whether invited or not is grounds for firing. My wife ran a team in Kansas City during the last census; she fired lots of people for not following the rules.

I received the ACS back in 2009. I answered only a few of the questions, and put "will not answer" on the rest. Sent it in. Started getting phone calls, and ignored them. After a few months, they sent someone to the house. I wouldn't answer the door. The lousy weasel waited to *ambush* me! (Your tax dollars at work, paying this low life to sit outside my house all day waiting for me to appear). Finally he caught me when I had a pizza delivered. I told him I had given them everything they were going to get from me. He threatened me with fines/imprisonment, as above. I told him to go for it, but in the meantime, he needed to get off of my property.

Never heard from them again. But I'll tell ya, the experience scared me. This nation has gone nuts.

They're right about the "will not ask to enter your house" part. She followed me in while I was carrying groceries.

Thank you! This was a few years back, so it'd probably be useless to file a complaint now, but I will jot down the above info in case it ever happens again.

I think I'd tell 'em to consult the IRS, who already knows what I make. Obama said there would be transparency, so go look elsewhere for the information you already have. Buh bye now!

I'm no fan of these Census things, but what would be the point of not disclosing your income? The IRS gets your exact income and benefit info from your employer anyway. Your bank discloses all accounts and interest accrued.....I pretty much figure the cat is out of the bag.

Some people (myself included) don't use banks.

Also, some people (myself NOT included) work for money under the table and the IRS doesn't have access to their earnings.

There's a plethora of reasons. My reason is simple: don't go meddling in my personal life. Also, if the info is already available, don't ask me to take my personal time spelling out information that's already available.

A better question the government should be asking, is how are these baffoons living on assistance managing to afford brand new vehicles, fancy rims, and expensive electronics, when they can't even afford housing/food? Dunno how it is where you are, but in my area, the unemployed living on assistance seem to be living the most comfortably, while productive members of society are living check to check.
