Instead of the drama being about building motorcycles, now the drama is about the show about building motorcycles.

    Now THAT'S next level!!

From day one American Chopper was never really about building bikes. The show has been and always was entirely about the family drama between the father and his sons. Which got old and repetitive by the second or third season. The bike builds were merely the backdrop on which the family drama unfolded.

True but now they're basically admitting it. I haven't watched the show in years outside of the odd episode here and there.

I used to watch the show when it first aired. It was enjoyable to see them design and build a bike and then watch it take shape. But the ego's of the Paul Senior and Paul Junior eventually overpowered everything they worked on and their arguments became cyclical, predictable and repetitive. Seems like OCC is nothing more than a marketing product line these days.

I always laugh when I drive by the monstrosity of a headquarters/showroom OCC built off of I-87 in Newburgh NY...

Why would you laugh? That building is a indication of someone's success.

My in laws had the Sunoco bike for a few weeks before bringing it back to Philly, and the work on the bike was sloppy at best. The cost of the build was crazy, but then again Sunoco was basically paying for a two hr commercial.

The issue for them is that their popularity is propped up by the show, not (completely) by the quality of their bikes. If the show goes off the air they will probably find they have too much building and will be in trouble.

Outside of that, good for them.

I stopped watching that show long ago, too much BS and scripted drama.

Because it sticks out like a sore thumb as you drive by on the highway. Its not really an indication of success, anyone can build a building if they get the financing to do so. What the Tuttles have been successful at (good for them too) is building a product marketing empire built on the coat tails of a, marginally successful, TV show based on their family drama as they build custom bikes.

At one point back in 2010 their lender sought to foreclose on the Orange County Choppers building in Newburgh NY during a dispute over payments.

Great soap opera, if you like soap opera, however, the acting is not quite that good...............

No. The season-ending "cliffhanger" was about their attempt to reconcile.

Exactly and that's precisely why our country is headed down the tubes. The socialists have conditioned society that success is evil so nobody strives to be successful anymore. It even permeates this board.

I met them years ago, before any TV show. They were just starting out and were at a bike show (Marcus Dairy) trying to sell a few bikes, and show what they were doing.

The 1st Spider bike was there, and a buddy and I were talking to them. Honestly, they were building some really cool looking, interesting bikes. IIRC they were pricing them just below the $20K mark. Talked for a while with Jr, Sr and the kid that's never on TV... and they came across as really good guys.

I guess the fame got to them (or it's been an act for the cameras)

And the other end of the spectrum (I don't know what to call them) has conditioned us to believe that success is burying yourself in debt so you can build a monument to yourself on the side of the road and show everyone how successful you are.

His sons will not really even talk to him, he is hardly successful.

a couple of years back I saw one of OCC bikes at a Bass Pro Shop and the bikes to me look better on TV, but I'm not a bike person.

Was the lawsuit about ownership shares in the company real or part of a scripted show?
