From the country with virtually zero enforced environmental regulations; also, why you might want to stop buying junk from China. An amazing photo series on the human and environmental cost of manufacturing in China: http://www.chinahush.com/2009/10/21/amazing-pictures-pollution-in-china/

Would you want to live here? I probably wouldn't! And that's why I don't buy many things Made in China.

As misguided as some EPA regulations are, those who want to see the agency disbanded are more dangerous than industrial pollutants themselves. HH

    Great post. Agreed.

Capitalism is wonderful, but it needs some rules framework to work within. It just invites too much abuse.

China is instructive because their environmental regs are virtually unenforced... and this is what you get.

I doubt Chinese citizens can sue.

Actually, China's pollution is a great example of a totalitarian government's failures. I do believe that Soviet Russia enjoyed quite a bit of world-class industrial pollution as well.

I think in China you get a life sentence for questioning your government.

On the other hand, U.S. citizens can sue when a corporation poisons their drinking water or causes cancer in a local population.

This sure makes me want to eliminate the EPA! LOL! Sure the EPA needs some adjustment but getting rid of them entirely would have disastrous results.

We were there once, as were all industrialized nations. Eventually they may become wealthy enough to have the luxury of manufacturing with clean technology.

Assuming you have the resources to fight a multibillion dollar corporation in court for decades...of course even if you win it doesn't make your water safe to drink again or keep you and your children from dying. We as a society have decided that preventing such things is a better course than cleaning up after, the problem of course being that as with all government agencies the EPA keeps growing and expanding their mission to justify an ever larger budget. A middle ground would seem to be the optimal course.

I would like to see the EPA eliminated but I'm not crazy. There are standards that need to be in place but I feel that private self-regulation, the type performed by the Underwriters Labs, would give us far more efficient and safer practices.

So you don't believe in the American judicial system so the a answer is a federal bureau?

What level of resources are needed to fight the EPA in court?
