All the bells and whistles 1911, but looks like a GI?

I cant be the only one that's thought of this. I think it would be cool to have a customized super accurate 1911, but having it still look like as much like a GI model as possible. I guess it may be best off to start with a Springfield GI and work up from there with the custom parts huh? Cool idea I think, I'm sure its been done.

Charles Daly made a polymer 1911. :dunno:

This has nothing to do with your original topic but I thought it was interesting.

There are alot of custom gunsmiths (Yost, etc) that have made "retro" builds.

I have the Yost retro custom conversion.

Mine was built on a 1911, not a 1911-A1 that's pictured in the link.

The build sheet is on mine is what you see on Heirloom's website.

    Enjoy the pics.

Despite its plain jane looks, its a heavily customized 1911, built with the some of the best parts around and finished very nicely.

While it still has its retro look and feel, it bears little in common internally with the gun it started its life as. There are also subtle, but important changes externally.

The gun is very tight with a match grade Kart barrel. The sight picture is great with the Yost rear and 24k gold inlay front.

The guys at Heirloom are true masters.

Yeah, Yost uses them for most of his custom builds.

They're among the best barrels made.

Blueing was standard for Gov't issue guns well into WWII.
