For 60 years a widow wrote to her congressman regarding her husband. She wanted to know what happened to him during WWII after receiving many different letters regarding his fate.

Her current congressman wrote her a "canned answer" without looking into it at all.

She finally found out what had happened - and it was remarkable. Hope you can keep a dry eye while watching the video.

The following link is about her congressman's apology for being such a *********.

Absolutely sickening act on the Representative's action.

I am glad she found closure.

Congressmen get dozens, if not hundreds of these types of requests every year. They are handled by their staff.

    His staff screwed up.

In business you get fired for the failures of your subordinates. That is what being an executive or managing a staff is all about.

Why blame the Congressman's office instead of incompetence by Department of Defense and Department of Army?

Please, I worked in the private sector. Management blames their employees for their screw ups all the time.

All those years waiting for her husband or an answer. That's so sad. Shame on that Representative for doing (or not doing) what he did.

Yeah, what is the story here? She was notified of his death, but there was some confusion as to his actual grave site. I'm sure there are hundreds, if not thousands of similar stories. It's not like she was told he was alive and spent 60 years waiting for him to come home. And quite frankly there are probably a dozen veteran and military organizations (like the LTs unit) that could have answered this question rather than asking a congressman about it.

Tragic story for the widow Harris............but moreso it shows you to what depths the media will sink to in order to to cast a shadow on any Republican, especially a high ranking one . The story was not about anything the Congressman or his staff did or did not do. But from the CBS perspective you would think it was the nearly the whole story. Now had the Congressman been a Dem., this would never have seen the light. That's a fact Jack!

Does anybody here honestly think that this guy would have wanted her to go her entire life without a companion, children etc? As touching as this story is it's also saddening to think of her whole life spent waiting for something that didn't exist

Likely not. However, I respect the lady. She feels strongly about her vows and I say good for her.
