How hard is it to apply for a permit to own a gun in Alaska? Is FBI approval necessary? Thanks in advance.

Hehehe, I thought so. There's this country man of mine who has immigrated to Alaska. He used to shoot here and he's been saying all along that he was gonna get his dream pistol(A kimber) when he got there. It's been three years now and he's been giving one excuse after another. There'd be no problem if he'd just out and say he's not buying a gun but I think he's ****sh****ng us(his shooting buddies here) when he says his application is what's delaying the purchase. Thanks for the input.

There are NO special permits required to purchase a firearm in Alaska outside of the regular BATF form from your FFL...:shame:

I am pretty sure Alaska has constitutional carry, CCW is absolutely commonplace for every day non-gun enthusiast people, and carrying a gun is REQUIRED when flying a light plane.

Now, that's the type of 'gun control' law I can get behind!

What application? We even allow tourists from NJ and other eastcoast socialist crapholes to carry here when within the realm of the Greatland.

It should be mentioned that if your friend just emigrated here, he may not be legally able to own a handgun yet. What is his immigration status, do you know?

Alaska has great gun laws no doubt, but I'm surprised folks didn't pick up on the fact he was an immigrant, and just started telling him he was legal... This is why getting advice on the internet is dangerous.

What ilgunguygt mentioned is really the key issue on this situation..

He may not be bs'ing you guys... a 4473 (the form he has to fill out to buy a firearm from a dealer here in the US) has questions relating to a buyers immigration status. That might be what he's referring to as an "application" (although its not an application)

Pay very close to questions 11-L and questions 12 and 13.

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...TGz990VfPeaJhP7-A&sig2=LuUXJ2KY48m7G71h-0lD9A

Note: The above is to download the .pdf version of Form 4473, but if you don't want to download it, I'm sure Google will turn up the questions on the form, and you can see why he might be having an issue... again, it all depends on his immigration status.

Alaska probably has the highest per capita gun ownership in America.

Yeah, I didn't check the OP's grid coordinates. If he's not a citizen then it'll default to feral govt requirements based on citizenship/visa status.

Sorry, did I forget to mention he's an immigrant? He is a green card holder already.

If he has a green card, he should be able to legally buy/possess a firearm per the ATF.

As for "carrying" a firearm, that will fall under Alaska state law, which I'm not sure about.

If he is a legal immigrant and Alaska resident, he can buy a gun any time he wants. He has to have an instant background check by telephone if he buys at a retail gun shop, but that's the only way there is any paperwork. Otherwise, he can buy a gun from a friend any time. In alaska he doesn't even need a permit to carry it concealed.

Alaska does not require a permit for concealed carry.

He's been there 3 years and had a green card for around two years.

Yep, that's why I think he's trying underestimating us(his buddies). :dunno:
