I had a nice viper alarm in my old Ford Ranger, it was from like 99, but it was real nice. My friend had the same one and it alerted us when someone tried to break into it outside our house. went off and we were able to run the to kids down and hold them till neighbors called the police.

I like the Crimestopper alarms (I've installed them in about 5 different cars now). You can pick up their top of the line alarm/remote starter on E-bay for under $150, has tons of features, and is very user friendly.
